I just got this 89 SSP LX 5.0 and I've seen the Cold Air Kits that go into the fender. Do these get really dirty by being in there and when it's time to clean the filter does it come out through the engine compartment or the fenderwell?
Are these ok or should I use the cold air intake that stays under the hood?

Also I've heard about changing the mass air flow sensor. Does this make a big difference with the stock injectors?

I'm new to these cars and appreciate your ideas.

I CAI cone filter in the fender will actually stay quite clean unless you drive on dusty and dirty roads. Otherwise, it gets about as dirty as a stock airbox filter. If you take it out to clean, you'll have to get it out from underneath. Kinda a pain considering the small HP gain you'll get from it. You want to stay away from putting the filter in the engine bay though.

On a rather stock car with 19#'s, a bigger mass air won't give you really much of a gain. I'd only upgrade your mass air if you get a bigger TB and intake. For example, I have a stock ported lower with a 65 TB and a 76mm mass air.
