I Have a 93 mustang lx 2.3 and for the last 2 weeks the check engine light has came on twice frist time in years then after 2 min it goes out my question is can the OBD 1 system in the car store soft codes? car has 223000 miles runs great no skipping or missing fire. first car and i take really good care of it
Yes, your computer very likely has codes stored. Take a paper clip and jump the upper right terminal on your large diagnostic connector (upper right as you're looking at the end of the connector) with the single terminal on the small diagnostic connector. Then turn the key to the "on" position (don't start engine). Wait a few seconds and the check engine light will begin flashing out your codes. It will flash all Key-On-Engine-Off codes first (these result from instantaneous diagnostic checks that the computer does when you initiate the test), then it will repeat them. Then there will be a long pause, single flash, and another long pause. Then it will flash out the Keep Alive Memory codes (error codes it has stored while you were driving), and repeat them. That's it. Count the flashes and write them down as they come out. A code of 11 means all is well. Anything else is an error code that you can look up online or in your Haynes manual.
check codes and it read low volts when egr is closed battery good alternator is good i dont know now where to go egr was replaced about 75 to50 thousand ago any sugestions
what was the actual code?? sounds like the EGR Position sensor on top of the EGR valve, but i could be the EGR Valve, bad vacuum swt, or electrical (ie. bad ground)
