Convertible hydrolic cylinder replacement

I need to know how to go about bleeding the hydrolic lines that feed my convertible hydrolic cylinder. i have an 84. i have a friend who attempted this with his and said that he couldnt really figure it out and now has too much air in his lines. i wanna do it right the first time so any suggestions will be much appreciated. the book on my car mentions nothing about the convertibles or any of their components.
