Is there a way to adjust the water temp guage? My temp guage only moves to the first line after the thermostat opens. Wondering if anyone has heard of the guage being adjusted and I especially want to learn how to do the adjusting.
Mine does the same thing...almost. I at least get to the second bar. You could try to replace the temp gauge sending unit, but in my case it didn't help. The factory gauges are notorious for being inaccurate. There's no real way to trim(adjust) them. You're choices as I see them are limited to living with the guestimate on the factory gauge or installing an aftermarket gauge somewhere. My car is down right now while I finish the turbo motor build, and when it hits the road again, it's got the full gauge treatment. I purchased gauge panels from Florida 5.0 that installs in the place of the factory cluster and another that mounts in the notch on the dash that runs from the cluster to the right hand speaker and I've bought a full complement of Stewart Warner gauges including speedometer and tach to get away from the factory gauges. You don't have to go as far as I have, but a simple 3 gauge panel or even an individual temp gauge would put you in better shape than the factory stuff. They're animated idiot lights at best.
I'd put in a mechanical temp gauge and be done with it. You can get a Sunpro gauge from the parts store for under $20. I have one of their mechanical oil pressure gauges in my 2.3 b/c my factory one wasn't working. I used a holesaw to drill a hole in the lower right area on my cowl where all the dummy lights are (but on my car there were no actual lights there... just an empty space behind the plastic panel) and mounted the gauge flush against the face of the panel. I think it looks great and it's easy to read, at least with my non-airbag steering wheel. If your car is a 90+ the steering wheel might make this location hard to see.
I went with Autometer on the A-pillar, and called it a day.. I found the stock to be terribly inaccurate..
