Well slow down just a bit... I think they used that other V8 thats only like 150 hp. Also with the carb off is there something covering the intale holes up? If not then the motor may need rebuilt.

You had a '79 Mustang sitting in your yard and only just now noticed?

Anyway, if it's a 79 it's most likely a 4.2L. I believe 4.2's were debored 302's, and they can't be bored back out to a 302. From what I've heard they're basically boat anchors because you can't get any decent performance out of them.

I alwayz thought it was a 2.3 i never really looked under the hood.. but what does bored/debored mean.. and is it any faster than my 2.3.. also since its comming out of a fox body will it easly bolt up to my 89.. im not really trying to race anyone... but wont it sound like its fast lol. will my manual tranny bolt up to it to?

Some moron just went through the boat-anchor swap recently, against the advice of us and the 5.0 board. The 4.2 is really such a piece of **** that it's not worth your time or effort to swap it. If you're such a masochist as to still want to swap in a nearly-useless motor, at least get a 5.0 from a Lincoln or Cougar or T-bird or something....then you'll have at least some kind of performance potential, and it'll be a much easier swap. Don't be an idiot - ditch that 4.2 ASAP.

Hey Hey now that 4.2L would be a great motor...on Junk yard wars if that was all that was left to pick from :nice:

well its not a 4.2 its a 5.0 just not a High Output 5.0, if you baiscally got a free one, you wouldnt "ditch" your 2.3... anything is better than a 2.3

Dude has it really been that long since you mowed the yard? How do you find a car you didn't know you had in your own backyard. That is hard for me to believe and I'm from Arkansas, a place where broken down cars are considered lawn ornaments! :D

Hold on guys. I had a 79 ghia and it had a 302. Numbers did match and i used all 302 parts intake, headers.cam and pistons for a 302.

Yeah the '79 had the plain 302. The '80 and '81 models had the 4.2 and the 5.0 H.O. showed up in '82.

Ok I just coudn't remember the years on them. It came with a 140 hp 302 but the probly still remains of what shape its in  I would totaly rebuild that sucker before I droped it in. While its being rebuilt I would get a few things like: Cam, Intake, and a Carb for it. Now if he's got some money I would do something with those heads ;)

yeah nobody mentioned the 79 pace cars had 302's so a 302 came in something. You can say what you want about any of the engines that came in those cars......88 Turbocoupe still out powers it.:p
The 4.2 is a 255ci. I'm talking race car.....I encourage you to do the swap.I'll supply the engine because I probably have one I'll give you.:ralugh:

    Just kidding
I've just never heard anything good either though.
