on cold starts my engine is making a horrible noise coming from the area of the starter. when i turned the switch off the engine kept "turning" and when i turned the switch back on the engine started "running". i immediately started to jack up the car so i could tap the starter to see if it would disengage but it disengaged before i could get under the car to tap it. i could tell the noise was coming from the starter cause when the starter disengaged the engine sounded normal. so which one is defective...the starter or the solenoid?
