Has anyone heard of a Rich Porter distributor?? They are priced cheap and my fear is they are made cheap as well. Or can anyone tell me where i can buy the PIP module for the stock dizzy. Thanks for any suggestions!!! -Paul
Yeah someone just posted a link to one not long ago. It's basically a stock distributor. Personally I've been stuffing rebuild Cardone ones in cars for years and never had a problem. I'm not a big fan of changing just the pip. There is a bush in the distributor that wears out as well and cause the shaft to wobble. I've had the Cardone one in my car for 7 years I think now. Kurt
NAPA sells the PIP sensor. If you didn't know....there is an oddball size socket you'll need, think it was a 5.5mm to get it out. A press also, got to remove the cam gear....but that can be done with a malet if you can't access a press. Good Luck!
Removing the gear can easily be done with a regular gear puller, or a pulley puller. Sometimes it can be pulled off with your hands. I would purchase a new roll pin for it. I'm not a fan of reusing roll pins, they just don't seem to be as tight the second time. You will need a small punch to get the roll pin out. Kurt
Hey thanks for all the responses. I think i might just by the Rich Porter and give it a shot. Or where can i get the rebuild Cardone since Kurt has good luck with them. Another question is does anyone have experience with Accel ignition modules. The reason i ask is i would like to just change out both due to weird stalling problems, tach problems etc.. Thanks again guys!!!! Your saving my *ss. Paul
I've told Kurt already that the problem with Cardone units has just started a couple years ago. His was bought 7 years ago! The Richporter is brand spanking new, has no core charge and is cheaper than the Cardone unit. What's there to think about? lol Cardones nowadays are junk! I've been there, done that and I've read numerous threads where people bought one, installed it and THOUGHT the dizzy wasn't their problem. I told some of them to take back the reman'd Cardone unit and buy the Richporter and it fixed them right up! Feel free to search for the threads where I recommended these to people with success!
That's right, I remember having that discussion. I just did one on another Mustang about 2 years ago, but the owner hasn't driven it much. Kurt
Nuff said! I just ordered a Rich Porter. And am still laughing about the cross threading better than loctite comment!!! Thanks guys!!! Paul
I went with the 5.0 because I had the complete donor car at the ready and I've always wanted a New Edge car but with the 94/95 drivetrain in it. I'm more familiar around 5.0's and (I'd like to think) now I can have my New Edge styling but still get to hang out with the fine folks here in the 94/95 section! Win Win...
The Cardone might not be the best, but I'll put it up against an MSD Pro-Billet any day of the week. Kurt
