Finally picked up my Mustang, but I cannot find the release for the gas cover, I will not get into the status of the interior panels. Where should the release be? Second, the 2.3L has new plugs and wires, but sputters a bit off idle, gets smooth with higher RPMs. Any ideas? Last, where can I get interior panels aftermarket, like door panels and kick panels?
And turn it to the left. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Interior panels can be found at the junkyard, which is tough, or at 50resto.com for sure.
I can tell you havnt had very many mustang....my previous 87 lx had elec gas cap door with a press button in the glove box...all factor...another buddy's 90 lx is the same way. My car had a bright orange button cant miss it.
It is the lower button inside the glove box door. The top one is the trunk release on mine. There is a manual release inside the trunk.
My mustang had a hatch release (that sometimes worked) and that was it...I just thought they never put the gas door latches on there. Did they put it on hatchbacks? With all this talk of "trunks" makes me think it was only on coupes...
i never had a trunk release button only fuel cap release because it wouldnt work half the time. it was on a 87 lx hatch.
not wanting too much like I am pissed or anything, but to all the smart a## answers, first I said it was a dumb question, it was in the glove box. As for not having any prior mustangs. I owned a 68 notchback with 302, did full restoration, down to the bare metal, full engine. Second mustang, 1984 vert, 3.8, crappy shape, but good fun. Third, 2001 mustan GT, with all the goodies, including steeda susp., shifter, and more. Now this one which I was wrong, it is a 1989, not an 87, with a 2.3 and somewhere in the past I owned a 78Maverick(in Brasil they made it till 79), this one had the very same 2.3, did full rebuild, full paint and body down to the metal. Did I mention that my 68 had front drums that I converted to disc, with parts from a maverick and master cylinder from a F100 truck. Sorry if it seemed absurd that I did not know where the release for the gas door was. A little infor on my current 89, it is in POS shape, door panels are shot and missing parts, has 3 different types of seats(2 different front ones and the back is stock). Both kick panels are missing, this is just a taste. I bought it for two reasons, I needed a car thaty would get better milage than my f150, and I love rebuilding cars or motorcycles, and this will be a challenge.
I didn't know there was a manual cable in the hatch that's cool. And yes the gas door botton is in the glove box on the left side
Yes. My SVO is just like the '89GT hatch I used to have; small orange button in the bottom left glovebox. The bigger yellow one above it is for the hatch. In the trunk is a little steel cable for manually releasing the door.
sorry, I thought it was, in my defense, it was right before goging to sleep last night, and I was beat.
