Edelbrock 600 cfm stumble

It start out, its a 302..with a 600cfm manual choke, it idles and runs fine but when in neutral i rev to 2000rpm the the engine stumbles back and forth untill i get past that point..it backfires a little sometimes at that stumble point to.

Could this be a lean setting, i remember reading that somewhere but im not sure? What could i change? metering rods?

I was looking at the tuning kit for the carb for $57...is it worth it to buy that?

Look in your manual. There are jet and Metering rod suggestions in a graph that will help you start making changes. Sounds like a rod change a little richer on the "power" part of the taper will help. The backfire part of your problem dos'nt sound like carb though??
