Looking at trying to get my engine block painted red.. I just got a 30 grand bonus from the army and im starting with the engine. I want the old school look when you pop the hood. Whats involved and how hard can it get ! IM trying to go red in the engine bay (block wise) and everything else mat black and silver. I have a saleen kit and black 04 saleens awating install... ANyinput would be great thanks !
this is going to be my DD nothing like that yet ! And im saving money for the little one on the way ! I cant get to crazy the little woman will kill me !
Red sure sounds like it will go great with the silver and black theme! I have no advice for painting an engine that is already installed Looking in your "awaiting install" list, what '69 badging that you credit me for? BTW!
you gt logo and mustang lettering ...i pick'd them up but painted them flat black..I saw them on your car and had to give credit were credit is due !
Gotcha! I had influence as well on the trunk lettering(I love how it reflects off the GT500 spoiler!!!!!)and didn't find out untill after posting on another site the faux gas cap, others had done nearly the same thing! It looks great IMO! I'm looking forward to seeing your black lettering for the props!
Maybe you should go with black, 'cause according to some yahoo on another board, black blocks make like 10 more hp than any other color. LOL!! Seriously, this is what the guy claimed. Anyhow, your best bet for a clean job is to pull the engine out and do a real good job on the taping off. You may be able to do that in car, but man, that would be a lot of work just prepping.
Take it from an old guy - Ford engines are Ford Blue not red! You really can't paint an engine with out pulling it out of the car and steam cleaning it. There used to be order in the universe, Ford engines are blue, Chevy's are orange
LOL!! I was thinking the same thing when I read the op. Don't forget the light blue chevy small blocks of the late 70's thru the 80's, and then they went with black. However, that was not for power, LOL! It actually was so that the service techs could trace oil leaks better when using the flourescient tracer die. I've been told that black paint is also cheaper, so I'm sure that figured into the equation too. I remember the Ford engines were more of a true blue, right? I was at a chevy dealer during the 80's and 90's, and consequently, I know little of the Ford history of that era.
Damn I just wanted the redish orange to complete the over all theme of the car.... dont get me wrong i practially bleed blue , but it just dosnt go with what im looking for.. each to his own right..?? hahaha
I would talk to some people in the know about what would be the best paint to use on aluminum, prep needed, would powder coating be better and what have you. I don't think you would want to go to all the trouble to pull the engine and then spray it with cans. You would want a baked on hard coat thats durable, not something that will start flaking in a week. Maybe talk to some engine builders and or rod shops for advice. I just wish some one would make a nice set of fancy cam covers for our cars. Some that say powered by ford or something, not just colored, or maybe finned with mustang 4.6, something cool like the intake cover.
I get muscle mustangs & fast ford magazine and there's a bunch of suppliers that sell the colored cam covers in there, ford racing for one and I believe steeda, but there's a bunch. However there just painted or chrome, I would like to see some fancy ones come out like we have for the windsors.
