So I bought a car the other day that came with alot of extras. One of the extras was a set of disc brakes that are supposed to be off a 67. They are a complete set, although they look completely different then the set I took off my other 67 which had factory discs. These new disc brakes are 4 piston and look old enough, but the back side looks completely different where everything mounts up, as do the brake lines. Did the 67's come with 4 pistons? I was told by a friend that the s-codes had them? Anyone with knowledge? Thanks!
All 67 factory disc brakes were the 4-piston Kelsey Hayes type. Many non-GT S codes were produced with manual drum brakes.
Is there any manufacturing numbers on the sets of brakes that will help me figure out exactly what I got? Hate to have to figure it out when I need pads. Thanks.
Well they look like this: http://www.mustangbarn.com/images/JL0515.JPG http://www.chockostangclassicmustang.com/images/355_parts_088.jpg This is the SSBC repro, marked SSBC: http://image.mustangmonthly.com/f/8..._mustang_disc_brake_install rotor_caliper.jpg The OEM caliper is marked K/H. The 65-66 is somewhat different, requires different pistons, dust seals and 3/8" hose fitting, while the 67 uses a 7/16 hose. Ryan, Measure the pistons in the calipers. If they measure 1 5/8" they are Mustang, Fairlane, Comet etc. If they measure 1 15/16", they are Big Car 4 Piston K/H Brakes, T-Bird, Galaxie, Maurader, etc. Check number on rear of spindles. Motor side, top arm. 65 66 Mustang spindle numbers will be C5DA or C4ZA, 66 Fairlane and 67 Mustang will be C6OA. Driver sides are all 3108, Passenger 3107. Dan
