I've been steadily upgrading my 67 since I got it (funny, because when I first got it I planned to leave it completely stock...that lasted about 4.8 minutes).

Anyway, one thing I don't like about the car are the seats. They are in good shape, but I'd like a headrest and a bit of side bolstering. What's very important is that I want to retain a somewhat old-school look.

I know I could retrofit in SN95 Mustang seats or put in COrbeaus, Flofits, etc, but those are all a little to "edgy" or overstuffed for my liking, and don't fit aesthetically with the classic interior, IMO. Don't get me wrong, because I've seen where a few of you guys have installed late-model seats (Dodgestang) and it looks good, just not the look I'm going for.

I know there is a company that makes sport buckets with bolsters, headrests, and Pony decor for the classic Mustangs, but those don't really tickle my weasel.

I'm wondering if anyone on here has retrofitted 91-93 Foxbody seats into their classic Mustangs, or seen it done, particularly the seats with the pull-out leg rest. If you have pics, I would greatly appreciate you posting them. I've owned two Fox Mustangs, one of which received SVO seats I got from a Turbo donor car. The look of the Fox seats might just be teh balance of new & old that I'm looking for, but I"m not sure.

Anyway, I found a few places that make good-quality leather upholstery for the Fox seats with which I could re-upholster the seats in just about any color combo.

As always, your timeless, monumental wisdom is greatly appreciated. :D

I have an 89 Stang seat in my 66 and it sits higher than stock. I lowered my car but can't tell anymore because the seat is so high. I plan to use a hammer and bash down the mounting surface on the floor pan to get a better position. They aren't that comfortable either ecept the lombard. I have to lean way back to feel the head rest. I miss the stock seat, too bad I threw it off a cliff.

I have 87 GT seats in my 67. It was super simple. Just take the old tracks off your 67's seats and bolt them in place of the new GT's seat track. You might have to drill one or two holes in the track to get it to have a hole to bolt it to the newer seats, but other then that it is a simple swap. Feels A LOT better and looks better IMO. Here is a pic of mine.

 Nah, they were just in my buddys 87 GT that we yanked the motor out of. I was all greasy and crap while I was doing some wiring work onthe inside and that's why they are as bad as they are. I am looking into getting them recoverned in leather.

Sorry, I wasn't laughing at your dirty seats.

I was talking to the other poster, Latamud, who said he tossed his original seats off a cliff. He lives in Hawaii, where there are really deep ravines that are so steep and choked with vegetation that you could lose a city bus in them. I was stationed in Hawaii when I was in the service, and we'd have to navigate those ravines during exercises, and we'd find where people had discarded refrigerators, engine blocks, everything imaginable, even junk cars. Kind of spooky to be along in the woods and come across an old Chevy upside down with vines growing up through the chassis and lizards running in and out of the broken windows. You look inside, half-expecting to see a human skeleton looking back.

there is another way....... you can cut the hieght of the floor pan in half, pull the bottom half outward and drop the top half of the pan inside, then push the bottom half back into the top half that you droped in. this will lower the whole pan 2 1/2" and back about 1 1/2" and you can bolt or use self tapping screws to put it in place. the carpet goes over it and you'll never see the cuts.

I wouldn't use sheetmetal screws. I would weld it back into place. Lowering the pans is a good idea. MustangsPlus has an article all about doing it on their website:

thanks for the link to that article.

however, do you think it would really be necessary to do the floorpan modification??

I'm 6'2" and 195-ish, and I don't feel cramped in my 67. However, I have the seat all the way back and it's just about perfect because I don't like to drive with my arms full extended, rather bent a little...I also have plenty of headroom right now too (this might be due to the fact that my original seats are going thin in the stuffing).

I've had two Fox 5.0 Mustangs previously, I don't remember sitting up too high in them, or that the seats were that thick. That's one of the reasons I'm considering the Fox Mustang seats: they are fairly thinly padded, have a kind of spare, classic look, and don't appear "overstuffed."

Any idea how much Fox seats would cost from a junkyard? I'm not concerned about the condition of the upholstery because I would re-do them myself, but I'd need a solid frame.

No it is not necessary to modify the floorpan. That all depends on your own preference and comfort. I just provided the link because someone mentioned lowering the seat platforms. Have you looked at SN95 seats they look better and are more comfortable that the Fox's. They are also fairly easy to come by in excellent shape.

I've looked at the SN95, and IMO they are a bit overstuffed. Also, the curvy lines of the SN95 don't appeal to me aesthetically as a match to my 67 interior. I think that Fox seats (the deluxe ones with pull-out leg support) would be a perfect match, especially when re-upholstered in real two-tone leather.

I see where you are coming from. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a set of Bullitt or Mach1 seats at the swap meets.

ya the seats in the '67 were really surprisingly comfortable. I thought they were goign to be the first things I tore out of the car. I hate my friend's '88 GT seats. Some seats out of a newer Trans Am or something would be nicer.

Bullit & Mach 1 seats do have sort of a retro look. Good luck finding them, though.

I've had a couple sets of Fox body seats in my car, including a set of Recaros from a '79 Pace Car and a set of '89 5.0 Mustang sport seats. Both had the adjustable leg support thing. The Recaros were supportive but the frame design was only supported on one side, so eventually the frame bent to the opposite side. The 5.0 seats were ok, but I found them completely lacking style (at least for me). Ultimately I decided I wanted a traditional looking highback seat that would kinda match the original Mach 1 highbacks... I chose these:

Some of you might recognize them... anyway, their leather and have the same frame/structure as Fox body seats with adjustable bolster and all. Same mounting procedure as Fox body seats too... drill 2 extra holes and attached my original seat tracks and bolted them in. I intend to get them recovered to match the original comfortweave interior, so eventually they should blend in quite well, and still have that classic highback seat look.

    Hope this helps...
