Front 02 Sensors...

Ok, I researched this but could not find what I'm looking for...

Let's say if you install long tube headers, an off-road mid pipe, and then turn off the 02 sensors via hand held tuner such as the predator. Then you screw the 02 sensors back into the headers and mid pipe but leave them unplugged and zip tied out of the way. I know the rear sensors won't matter but do the front sensors have to be plugged in for a reason even though they've been turned off? We don't have inspections here so failing an emssions test wouldn't be an issue. I just need to know if I'm hindering my cars performance in any way by not having the front 02's plugged in even though they've been turned off.

I would think not having the fronts in would screw with the PCM's calibration.I believe it needs them there no matter what,reasons of the a/f,and lean/rich settings.The rears' on the other hand can be shut off perminatly for sure.

Man I feel like such an idiot! I wonder if this could be the reason why my car made only 325 hp on the dyno using a 100 shot of nitrous? Oh well I just ordered a set of extensions for it.

Unplugging the front O2 sensors forces the car into open loop and you need to have a good tune for that..

Correct, with the front sensors unplugged the computer cannot make fuel adjustments. You basically take away the adaptive learning capabilities of the puter. Very bad for it esp if your spraying it.

Consider yourself lucky that you didn't have any major engine problems on the dyno with those unplugged and a shot running. I'm very surprised the shop didn't say something about it.

The only good thing is I think when the engine is in open loop, it usually runs rich. When my car was running in open loop my AFRs were in the 10s
