I was looking at 3.73's or 4.10's for my 99 cobra. I would like 4.10's but I also like my highway cruising rpm being as low as possible and getting good mileage. The reason I want gears though is because its a nice cheap mod for the results I would get (everyone seems to say the 4.6's like gear swaps). I did the calculations and with 3.73's it would be approx. 2300rpm at 70mph, 2500 with the 4.10's. Anybody running these gears in a cobra?? What kind of gas mileage are you getting?? Right now I average 21mg with the 3.27's. Also, I've only done integral axle gear swaps before. Anything special I should look out for, or beware of on the 8.8??

I run 4.10's and get 23MPG with almost all bolt ons. You will be at 3000RPM @ 80MPH.

I love my 4.10s and wish I had 4.30s...I would never consider 3.73s but if I felt like I was going to be going 80+mph all the time I might consider 3.90s.

I just noticed while filling up earlier, I was around 205 miles on ruffly 3/4 of a tank of gas. That was mostly playing around too. I did just get my offroad pipe two weeks ago :D

    Don't Fear The Gear.

Matter of fact if I had a solid axle I would have 4.56's.

    Damn IRS :bang:

Do you guys think you will have any problems with the rear end on a 99 with 410 or higher?

The Rear End itself will not have a problem w/ 4:10's or higher it just the wheel hop that sucks major A**. The wheel hop is what can really mess up the IRS.

And.. is it just me or am I the only one that gets horrable wheel hop when shifting under "racing" circumstances??

I have 3.73 in mine, good all around gear. I have blower too if you gonna do power adder i wouldnt go over 3.73, then its like a rodeo ride with your mustang trying to buck you off :) It all depends what your doing with the car, if its street strip only then go higher. I like to do track days around Portland International Raceway an sometimes do road trips so i couldnt see going over 3.73, or 3.90. But looks like am the only one on thread gonna tell you stay under 3.90  Whatever you do is still gonna be beter than 3.27

I put H&r 800 lb springs and drop tire pressure to about 18 psi, makes wheel hop a bit more manageable

I do not have the 410 gears yet installed to report on, but currently with the stock 327's, I do not have too too bad of wheel hop, I believe all I have to counter that is hypercoil lowering springs, subframe connectors, and some good old bfg tires :D Seems like if you spin the tires alot while accelerating, the tires either just spin or grip hard, but it is when you do not give it enough throttle that mine starts to buck. I think its different with everyone.

Thats exactly what I was looking for. I use my car for everything so 4.10's seemed a little extreme for what I wanted to do. I'm an occaional drag racer, I only go once in a while so its not a huge deal to me. I wanted the gears as just a cheap power adder that wouldn't affect my car a whole lot as far as driveability.

dman, 410s from what I hear are not at all extreme in a high winding cobra. I never race my car and I am putting them in. I do not drive on the highway much but if I have to, the cobra's prefer to cruise close to 3k, and also it is actually better for both your motor and your transmission to be at higher rpms on a car like this. Every performance shop has told me that, and their reason is basically because if you go to accelerate from say 2k or below, you are putting much more strain on the trans and motor than say if you start at around 2500. But I cant say for sure, I ll be sure to post back once they gears are installed, but they better work out haha for my sake :nice: but if your worried, go with 373. They are a decent gear for any 4.6
