I found a local buy of some cast iron Ford heads for a good price.

"I have a set of Gt 40 iron heads that have about 1k miles on them sice being Cleaned, ported, 3 angle valve job, milled .005", and new Trick Flow spring Kit."

The seller says they are GT-40 heads off of a '96 or a '97 Explorer. I asked if they were GT-40p's and he said no, they are true GT-40's. Did Explorers ever come with straight GT-40 heads or were they all GT-40p's?

Thanks,
Tim

yes, the P head was a later development for the explorer and before that they used a regular gt40 head. i can't remember the exact cutoff year though so you might do a google search or even a search for recent P head threads, i know it was mentioned in one of them

Thanks Bnic, I did some research and it looks like the '96-'97 Explorer heads are GT-40s. Plus there were some pictures on what to look at specifically to identify them.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get them, I think the 351 heads are my limiting factor.

Thanks,
Tim
