I've heard some talk here and there. Wanna know the truth. Will the Summit brand headers for a 5.0 fit the GT40P heads? Do i need to do any mods or need special plug wires? Where do i get these wires if I need them? Thanks for the help
They will prolly fit but the #7 plug on most of the shorty styles will be right on the header. I have Mac shorties and I run 90 degree wires with boot insulators with no problems.
Couldn't I just use a good header wrap? Thermo-tec makes header wrap that withstands up to 2000 degrees
I don't think they do fit, usually only equal lengths and long tubes fit because they come straight off the flange more than shorties do
just get the frpp p50 headers...save yourself some grief. they are about $250. That's what i'm planning on using.
come on guys atleast make an attempt to search, you can get this info by typing "yo momma" in the search bar. You need to get MAC or FRPP P headers, end of story, if not the headers will literally sit on the spark plug and you wont even be able to get the boot on, so dont even plan on header wraping solving it. (Some say the BBK long tubes work by they are too expensive imo to take a chance on.)
I second that one. I got a new set off ebay for $150 shipped a few years ago. Ceramic coated and all. If you have some time to look for good deals I would wait for a set of the FRPPs. They fit and changing plugs is no problem.
I got mine last month, they are nice....bought them from Summit. Will probably have them ceramic coated this winter for install next summer.
I have read that many use the BBK unequal length shorties with good results (and 90 degree boots).I'll know soon.I have the "P" engine on the stand and the BBKs on the current engine. The headers look like they have a lot of room between the tubes.
I have the bbk unequal length shorties on mine with the 90 degree boots and for insurance got heat sleeves on 7 and 8 and no problems
By the way I got my plug wires at autozone with the 90 degree boots at autozone for 30 bucks they were accels brand
Bringing it back.....So I see some of you guys are runnning the BBK's without ANY issues??? I already have the BBK's, and I see the p heads are a lot more affordable.
i would like to bring this back too. i have a MAC set of longtubes (1 5/8) and i keep on burning up the FRPP wires i have. i used 2 different brand spark plug wire insulators ( DEI and Thermotech ). The thermotechs worked a little better because they are double walled but they still burned through in about 15 hours of driving. I think 90* boots might help a little because there are 3 boots that sit directly on the header. Any one have any good info on a set of 8.5-9mm wires with 90* boots.
+1 I have the same bbk unequal length headers and want to keep them with my p heads. What's a good set of wires with 90* ends. Right now I have ford racing wires
At $50 per set of plug wires, not sure why anyone risks using headers that aren't the exact set needed. Won't take long at that price to surpass how much it would have cost to have just purchased the correct set to begin with.
i have the MAC "P" specific Longtubes (1 5/8) and i have the problem. it appears to only be on the driver side of the motor. not sure if they had to squeeze everything closer to clear the steering shaft or what. I did order some of the P526s spark plugs from summit. They are a shorter plug to help with header clearance. i have the double thick insulator boots and i am going to go get some header wrap and see if i can fix my glitch. ill keep posted with my findings.
i ran the gt40p heads on a 89 fox i built for a friend of my i ran the bbk long tubes with ford racing wires with no clearance issues... the use of some appropriatly placed zip ties made sure no wires or boots came in contact with the headers.
