So I called to order a set of lx tails from foxmustangrestoration... i asked if they were oem or aftermarket... the guy told me they were repro, but that he could he hook me up with a sweet deal if i wanted oem parts.

they take ford housings, clean them up, repaint and recondition them, and then put in brand new oem cobra lenses in.

    $290 ftw!

    super pumped.

Wow, is $290 a deal? I almost bought some originals for $40, and thought that was fair. Not cobra ones, but stock LX ones.

I agree, seen them at swap meets for $30-40. Sounds like a lot to me.

brand new oem taillights were running 350 a couple years ago from 50resto...

brand new oem taillights are obsolete and cannot be bought... well actually you can buy a left complete assembly for 277. there's no more rights tho.

it costs 250 for a set of new reproduction taillights...

so 290 for real ford lights, not so bad. brand new oem cobra lenses, reconditioned oem housings.

im still pretty pumped about it. whatev tho. maybe i'm just dumb?

Nah, not dumb. I think if you're going over a car and doing a 100% accurate rebuild then those tail lights are worth every penny on a Cobra. For any other reason then no, it doesn't make sense. You could get the repro lenses and put them on your own housings. BTW, just how is a plastic housing reconditioned?

Regardless of what anyone thinks about that deal, OEM Cobra lenses a few years ago were easily worth $400+. This is before the replicas/repro's were sold everywhere, now people have options so the value probably went down a bit.

At that time, I was restoring the old GT/LX lenses with paint and pinstriping to make and sell my own replicas - I made a killing! Not worth doing much anymore, but was fun while it lasted :)

the 290 price from foxbodyrestoration is for the complete housings. 145 per side.I was checking them out the other day. the lenses themselves are like 75 a side.
