Well my buddy has a 92 2.3L lx automatic and it has about 162,000 miles on it...and I drove it and you have to push the gas down further than you should to get it to start going...it also would not downshift (going uphill) when I tried to go WOT...but it will do a partial throttle downshift? The revs usually never went past 2k...but the car drives fine until you want to floor it and besides the having to press the gas down almost half way to get it going but once it gets going it is fine...just seems sluggish...??? Any ideas...is it tranny related? Thanks
things to check 1. Fluid levels 2. change the fuel filter 3. clean the injectors the pedal thing sounds like a filter problem or injectors. Up hill on an auto 2.3 Well you can walk faster so get used to that.
No...I'm not worried about how fast it accelerates up the hill...it would not downshift... To clean the injectors can you just pull them out and put them in fuel injector cleaner?
To clean Injectors, you can pull each and clean them with alcohol really good and hen add treatiment in the gas also. Yeah no downshift may be a tranny about to go. T5 swap may be in the future.
So what exactly is going out in the trans that would cause that? It kicks into reverse kind of hard when at a stop... So how hard is it to get to the injectors on the 2.3L? I know how they are on mine...not to hard...just curious on the '92? Thanks for the suggestions...
Well on my 93 they are pretty easy to get to and I think the 92 is the exact same as the 93. Kicks into reverse at a stop?????? Wholy crap Mine never does that, you better tell him to start saving cash for a new tranny.
I mean it when you put it in to reverse (from park) it kicks in kind of hard...it doesn't do it by itself Thanks...any more suggestions?
OHHHHH check the fluid level on the tranny. I had that same problem and I droped the teanny oil pan, changed the filter, put in new fluid and it runs great now.
