HELP!rattling when starting up the car?

i dont know what this could be. i have a 97 gt 5 spd. whenever i start up my car i hear this grinding or rattling. but it isnt like the grinding noise you get when trying to get in reverse. i think it might be broken syncros or something. and could this be another reason why i get grinding when trying to get into reverse. can someone help me. thanks.
