I recently acquired a set of the original style Flofit headrests, that I am looking to have re-covered to match my new leather Flofit seats. I dropped them off at my local upholsterer, who is very good. He seemed a bit 'bewildered' as to the construction and dissection of the headrest. Just how do these things come apart? How are they assembled? Any and all insight into this would be greatly appreciated. As you all know, these things are just about the crown jewel when it comes to unobtainable Saleen parts! lol Thanks.
Hey. Why didn't you just ask? The hardware that is the posts are connected to a frame of the same tubing with the mesh pulled and glued tightly over it. If your upholstry guy steams the headrest, the "pillow" I say that because it looks like a hemroid pillow thingy, Have one guy grab the pillow-upholstered part and aguy grab both posts and pull the two apart. You are going to need to get the top of the pillow to roll off the top of the frame and then pull the frame up and out of the pillow. It can be done. It may take three people, one to coax the frame past the beginning of the pillow. Hope that helps.
Thanks, Marcus. That makes complete sense to me. Actually it is an ingenious design, so that you dont have to hog ring on the cover or have a zippered seam etc. As usual, you are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to these cars!
No problem Bro. Don't give your upholstry guy any latitude. If I remember, I actually assembled that set myself with a buddy 5 years ago so I know they will come apart in two pieces. They look brand new, right? They have not seen the light of day since I picked them up.
Absolutely brand new. It is *almost* a shame taking them apart and cutting apart the perfect grey covering to use as a pattern! Oh well... I will have pics of the finished product, probably in many, many weeks, lol! He is also doing up some leather door panel inserts, should be really sweet once all is completed.
