I am thinking hard about getting a 2006 Stang. I live in the North-East and am in no rush. If I ordered one how long will it take? It will take the place of my brand new Audi A4 so I would not mind paying off some of that and also having it for the winter up here. I do have an Expedition for next winter.

    Thanks

Wow, that is a lot longer than what my dealer is telling me. I was told yesterday that delivery is usually 6-8 weeks, but it would most likely be early March. Does dealer volume effect delivery times at all?

If for some reason mine would get pushed out into summer, I think I'd probably let the dealer keep it and just grab one of the first 07's to hit their lots.

Bud of mine and his wife were at the local Ford garage having his truck serviced around Dec 1st..His wife was scoping out the Mustang brochure and said she liked the car...a salesman overheard her and said they had 2 GTs coming in on Dec 13th...one in the color she wanted, with a 5spd, Shaker system, pretty much loaded...Dec 14th she was driving it...28k is what she paid...
That was at Portsmouth Ford up here in N.H....Huge Ford dealer with 5 dealerships up this way..

yeah it was prolly an automatic also. try finding a black stick with your options you want. its not easy at least by me. So basically, it only takes long when u have to order one right?

I ordered mine with a 5 speed and that is one of the reasons that my dealer told me that they take so long.

What you need to find is if your dealer has any allotment for the type of stang you want.

Here was the initial product mix for the 05.

    (54V)
    30%
Interior Color Accent Pkg. (68R) 10%
    Interior Upgrade Pkg. (18G) 40%
    Shaker 500 Audio System (912) 54%
    Shaker 1000 Audio System (918) 10%
*Rates above represent full model year projections for both Coupe and Convertible

Your dealer must first have allotment so if he sells 7 V6 mustangs a year he will be allowed to order 3 GT's.

If the dealer has allotment then does the region have allotment. If the region has allotment then are all your options available or are there any parts not available IUP,5 speed,ICAP,Rear Axle. What is your priority? for the most part priority 10 is the best you can get. Anything below 10 is usually for fleet orders. I have heard of 1 car going priority 1 this was a case where the car hauler smashed the car upon delivery.

There are many threads explaining this in detail, I'm going by memory.

Bottom line find a dealer which sells a bunch of Mustangs and do your reaserch before you go so when you as him what your priority is and if he has allotment for what you want you'll know by his/her response if he's stringing you along. Don't tell him/her you're not in a hurry.

Great post, Thump_rrr. My local dealer does do a lot of volume and this explains why they tell me my order will only take 6 to 8 weeks.

I ordered in may of 2005 a GT vert. It is almost Jan 1 2006 , 8 months later, and still no word. Dealer has no info. Thinking of cancelling and buying something else. Hoping it comes soon because I had a custom top made for it already.

to the person who's waiting so long for your car, i waited 9 months until i was completely disgusted. i found the exact car i ordered in georgia and drove from ct to get it. your car is out there, just go somewhere else and tell your current dealer you're doing it.

2006 GT 5-spd w/ 18's - Ordered June 4, still C/U. Dearler told me it the 5-spd 18" combo is why it's taking so long. I've been #1 on his list to get the next GT for the last couple of months.

Funny. My dealer told me the same thing. I have been #1 for 9 months. I wish I was # 2. Maybe then I would get the car. I think I am going for the 350 Z instead. They have 3 on the lot ready to go for about 4k more.

Think you will be waiting alot longer if you do get the car....
If you are still at C/U by late Feb,I would order a 2007 Stang GT in early March from a bigger dealer then the one you ordered from....
I am not saying you are not getting the GT ,but if you call fords 800# up in late Feb and find out you are still at C/U then I would change dealers and order a 2007 GT for early summer....JT
