Mines at 145k driven hard daily everyday and it loves it, tranny is stock with new clutch and takes lots of abuse powershifting at the track, motor is stock kind of rebuilt, tune up, new timing chain, change oil every 3k, and a bcam, and its running mid 13's

hold on to your seats. my 1990 lx is at over 400,000 miles. verifiable miles. granted i have had the bottom end rebuilt once and i have refreshed the top end twice, as well as several clutches and a few rear end rebuilds. i have had the tranny rebuilt once and it needs it again now. i bought it at the ford dealership in montgomery alabama brand new. my typical commute to work for about eleven years was 75 miles one way to work and 75 miles home. i drove back and forth to daytona a few times a year for about fourteen years or so and countless road trips, plus almost five years of back and forth between palm coast florida and alabama / south carolina. i have replaced many of the oem parts and i suppose that has contribuited to its longevity. i change my oil every three weeks religiously. the only two times i ever missed a regular oil change was once when i had pneumonia and once when we had a death in the family. the longest the car has ever sat without being driven was about two weeks while it was in the body shop. ( deer ran out in front of me. bambi and mustangs don't successfully interbreed no matter how hard they try ) i am determined to make her last to 500,000 miles, then i am going to write a letter to the ford motor company - maybe they'll give me a new mustang :) - yeah i wish. this mustang is the first car i bought new, and it's also the first car i ever worked on. my cousin who is arguably the biggest ford fanatic on the planet showed me how to do my own brakes and oil changes, and i have been picking up experience along the way. one thing that i strongly believe has helped it last so long is that after i had the engine rebuilt i added an oil cooler, and i change the hoses twice a year just as a preventative measure. matter of fact i am installing a new larger oil cooler tomorrow, so my oil capacity will be right at 6.5 quarts. i use valvoline dura bland 10w40. i also keep a close eye on the antifreeze and the rradiator. if it starts to crud up i flush the cooling system and add new coolant.

needless to say, I love my Mustang. ;)

lol wow.

mines at 144k
only has had the valve covers off, doesnt smoke at all.
has some bad seals, front seat and rear main like to drop sometimes.
also have this mysterious tick from the engine, might be the roller rockers.

other than that its a champ and runs high 13s

Would you guys say that the 99-04 GT 4.6L and the 99-04 V6 3.8L engines can last 250,000+ miles just like the 5.0L engine?
What do the newer 99-04 4.6L V8 and the 99-04 3.8L V6 have which would make them last the same or longer than the older style 5.0L V8?

all i have to say is that i will always own at least one ford product. at work we only have crown vics, and i have driven some that are still used for service and have almost 150k on them. i dont care what anyone says, a patrol car see more abuse than anything ever driven...... boy the stories i could tell....

I have 273,000+ miles on mine. That mileage covers a transmission swap (T5 to Tremec 3550) at 173,000 miles and a reman engine at 183,000 miles. The clutch has been replaced 2 times and the Tremec has been repaired twice. Once due to an oil leak (complete rebuild) & the other time for a bad pilot bearing that scored the input shaft. I have a 3.55 Turbo Coupe rear axle courtsey of an oil leak that made the orginal 2.73 gears whine. I have another oil leak that looks like the front crankshaft seal, but I haven't verified that yet.

201,000 miles on my 89. I am the original owner. It has been my daily driver for 17 years. I am actually buying an 02 Gt tomorrow to drive daily. I want to get my LX off the road so I can restore it. It still has the original clutch and is not slipping at all. It is the most reliable car I have ever seen.

302's are bullet proof

If you keep up on the regualar maintence, and change your oil every 5000kms, religiously.......it will never die

I have taken apart motors with 400,000kms, and with regular maintence you can still see the honing marks on the cylinder walls

Just treat it well, and it'll treat u well.............
I am an apprentise, I have seen my fill of **** motors
