ok, well i am new to the s197 world. this car is a totally different animal than i am used to. i had a 2004 GT before, not going into that one, i had most all the bolt ons. i am curious what you all think is the best bang for the buck in to world of bolt ons. no nitrous or supercharger/trubo going on it anytime soon. just looking for the best performance for dollar spent on this car.

    Thanks in advance.

I've heard a CAI and tuner kit is one of the most bang for the bucks with the S197's. Also 4.10's help out a lot. Some run 12's with just those mods.

Everyone and their mom knows, the first and best bang for the dollar is doing a Cold Air Intake (CAI) and Tune.

    You can't beat it.

I got mine from Brenspeed, its awesome.

You can also get one setup from Bamachips.

I have flowmasters on for sound improvement however I just ordered an off-road hpipe that dave at brenspeed is gonna revise my tune for free and i may be able to pick up another 8hp.

Next would be Gears big time, i cant wait to do that, 4:10's.

From my understanding, if you get : Intake+tune+Gears+Exhaust+good tires+good weather = high 12 second pass

If that fails next thing for me will be control arms... still long road to go cuz i'm not rich *tears*.

Some have run in the 12's with only a CAI and tune. However, the DA and track prep were ideal.

CAI and tune will really wake it up, There are multiple systems out there. I am running the C&L/Predator combo. Picked up almost 30rwhp, and nearly the same in tq on the 91 octane tune.

man, on my 04, i never even changed the intake. it wasn't really worth it just installed a K&N filter. those cars it was all about the throttle body and plenum.

Ok so intake and programmer. any recomendations on which one? JLT was the one i was looking at for my sn95 are they still good on the s197s ? what are you all running ?

I'm using the WMS intake mostly for the "outside the box" look:nice: With the WMS CAI, 93 octane tune from Brenspeed, O/R H pipe and 4.10 gears I ran a 13.34 on stock radials @ full car weight(still had jack/spare, Shaker 1000 subs/amps and all seats). Not bad IMO for an automatic:nice: For the "factory" look, I don't see how you could go wrong with either the JLT or C&L intakes. Gears are another big item that will boost you acceleration #s for about $500(parts and labor).

Here are some rough RWHP #s for various mods.
    CAI/tune 30 HP
    Under Drive Pullies 8-10 HP
    O/R H pipe 8 HP

Not too bad for about a grand in parts+labor(all can be installed yourself with basic skills and the proper tools:nice: )

+1 on the CAI and tuner. This is the best bang for the buck.

I would have to say gears. I went from 3:31 to 4:30's and it really lit a fire under it, feels like it has 30 more hp. It will melt the tires if you let it, excellerates really hard now. With gears was like installing a different engine.

I got the JLT Intake and Tuner from Brenspeed and its the best bang for the buck mod. The C&L Intake is also a good option. You should see close to 30rwhp with a 93 octane tune. UD Pullies will add another 10hp. So for about $750 you can get a total of about 40rwhp. Very good deal!

That should put the manual GT right at 300 RWHP(+/- a few):hail2: and the automatic up around 285-290.

    CAI and tune

My first mods were a K&N cai, magnaflow exhaust, and dyno tune at MPH in atlanta and turned 295.2rwhp and 306rwtq. it ran 8.63 1/8th mile. had about 850 bucks total. . very much worth it.

hmm, my trap speeds have been in the high 83.x range, but my ETs keep getting better. IIRC, i was roughly 8.65@83.75. my ET gets better everytime i go, but trap speed stays within 1-2 mph. i know i have plenty of more room for improvement.

I just got a JLT II cold air intake with the SCT X3 tuner by Evolution Performance. My car is auto and that really woke the car up..I was surprised as I am new to the S197 world as well. I also added an x pipe and axle back and like a whole new car all together. I hope for some good times next friday I'll let you know the results.

    blackgt460,
After seeing you bone stock auto's 1/4 mile result in your sig, I'm quite impressed with my 13.34@104+ with 4.10s, O/R H, CAI/tune on OEM 18s at full weight(even the Shaker 1000 subs/four amps:woot: I never ran mine bone stock, but at least that is somewhat of an idea.

Yea, and seeing your times at 13.34 with basically the same mods I just added minus the gears makes me think I should get a decent time at the track this coming friday. I will be on street tires but I'm just hoping to get the mph up a good bit just so I can confirm I'm making some decent power compared to stock.
