But I just wanted to give every one a heads up about MuscleCarDirect.com I ordered a carbon fiber Mach hood from them. Fits great, looked great. However 2 months ago it started spider webbing in the (I'm guessing appoxy?) coating. So I wrote them and asked if they knew a way to prevent the spiderwebbing from spreading. No response. I tried to call. No answer. So I gave up on it because it wasn't really spreading any more and its on part of the hood I was going to paint any way. Then a few weeks ago one of the spider webs turned into a full on crack and I knew that a chunk would be coming out soon. So I wrote them again letting them know that I would like to work out a deal to swap the hood. Whether it was me paying shipping for a new one and them taking this one back, or a large discount on the hood, whatever. I just didn't want to feel like I got ass raped in the deal. Still no response, and sure enough as of yesterday I now can see what exposed CF feels like . So obviously this company is either rreally busy or they could give two turds about thier customers. So buyer beware. Now I don't have a pic right now, but the chipping and stuff I'm really worried about. Maybe I should ask on a um "import" site, but I was wondering if any one knew if the hoods can be repaired? Or once the coating is done and the CF is exposed you're screwed? I plan on taking it to a body shop in a week or two when I have "sufficient" funds to fix it, but I was hoping for some piece of mind until then.
Thats what I did too I'm hoping a body shop can just patch the chipped out piece (its about 2"s long 1/4" wide) and maybe use the winshield crack repair crap to stop the spider webbing then paint.
I did, no answer and no machine. Maybe something was wrong with the phone system, but I tried 3x same results every time. Note, the weave is fine. Just the epoxy or whatever the coating is, is chipped off and theres nothing covering the weave.
carbon fiber is really hit or miss.. it all depends on how its layed... i made a CF trunk for my buddys civic and its doing great for the last 2 years or so... i dont think that i would but any CF parts from a company that isnt that well known (at least i have never heard of that company)...
I did some Better Business Bureau searches in Phoenix, I could not find and records on the company in question...
I didn't even think of that. I know a few other people on here have the same hood as I do, and they never had any issues, so I'm guessing I'm just unlucky. I tried to google complaints or even praises on thier products, but the results were very limited. I'm still trapped at work making snow dissapear so my sleuthing is pretty limmited thanks to the govt. firewall. I'm assuming that no records is a good thing?
No records either means they are a good company or they just have not been around long enough to accumulate any.
I have no experience with it personally but I heard the epoxy coating is "surfboard resin" from a guy I used to work with that made hoods out of it. I would assume, one could sand the hood down and reapply (spray?) the resin onto the hood again. You'd need to ask someone knowledgeable before you do something like this however. Its just my own interpretation.
Wow, well, thanks for the heads up. Good to know. Interested in the outcome. Hope you find a good fix or they come through for you .. eventually.
