My temp guage stopped workin and then all of the times for the water pump to go out it was then. i drove it mybe 10 minutes to my buddies house and when i got there it just cut off and i saw smoke from under the hood so i was like wtf?! popped the hood and there was water everywhere and it was commin out at the thermostat housin the upper radiator house had no pressure at all and it looked like there was no water in the radiator. i tried to crank it but it would barely turn over so i was like wtf and left it at his house cause we are workin out of town in ronoake ,va so its been sittin for a couple of days now i get back friday is there anything that i should look for or do is does it sound like i seriously messed it up? i hope i didnt. oh yea one more thing is restore 4 turbo safe? j/w man i hope i didnt mess my motor up it gave me that sick fellin in my gut so i dont think its gonna be good i dunno im prayin lol. any help or info or just input of anytype would be greatly appreciated. thanks robbo ps: anyone in here from the ronoake area, i do see some rather nice turbo coupes rollin around with young guys drivin them like maniacs
sounds like to me it overheated pretty bad. from what you told us...i don't think you damaged anything.....thats just what happenes when it overheats. buy new water pump, thremostat, should fire right up......ohh..and of course..put some antifreeze in and thennn it should fire right up.
Put some water in the radiator, hook everything back up and see if she starts. Don't run her too long though, you just want to make sure it still runs. The reason why I am telling you to do this is because if you have shot your motor, all putting brand new cooling parts in is gonna do is take from your piggy bank that you need to buy a new car or motor.
thanks for the replies like i said my buddies dad doesnt want to crank it to let me know he says that he wants me to do it (dunno why) so ill know friday after noon please pray for my motor lol i hope i didnt mess it up it was just gettin really fun and exciting to mess with it to see hwat i could get out of it. it is an amazing motor just hope i havent prematurely turned it into a really big paper weight. robbie
The hotter an engine gets the more the pistons expand in the bores. When they get severely overheated like that, the piston becomes larger than the cylinder and the engine stops running till it cools down. Doesn't mean anything is broken, although the pistons probably get scuffed up pretty good. If you had an engine with an aluminum cylinder head, at this point you are most likely screwed. Since the 2.3 is built like an industrial motor you probably didn't damage it. I know that I never bothered to replace the radiator in my car when it was completely gutted of cooling fins, and it was running at a constant temperature of 260 degrees a couple weeks ago before I took it apart for a rebuild. There was no heat related damage. So if your car ran like 300+ for a few minutes I don't think it's busted. Oh yeah, and your buddy is being smart. He knows if he fires it up and something is indeed broken, you're gonna say he did it.
