Yeah, 5.0s can definitely sound badass with anything more than a cam and an o/r midpipe. I like the sound of certain 4.6s better though. Unfortunately, nothing can compete with the sound of a built ls1.
OYY not a built LS1...those damn things are louder as the RPM's fall than they are revving. I hate it when I hear an F-Body let off and it goes BWAAAAAAAAAAABLAPAPAAAAAAA mustangs are smooth and aggressive all in one. it is THE best sounding car on the road. even chevy guys and mopar guys and even import guys will say how they dont care for mustangs, but damn they sound good.

The sound of the 5.0 howl is music to my ears. My wife even will let me know when she thinks she hears one going by and she is usually right on the money. There is a built C5 in town with a Corsa Exhaust and that is nasty sounding, makes me pee a little when i hear him fly by
I think the 4.6L has a slightly more "exotic" sound to it. DOHC 4.6 cars sound soo much better than 5.0s in my eyes. I love the 5.0 sound, but the DOHC 4.6 trumps it in my eyes!
i agree that at high RPM's the DOHC 4.6 sounds AMAZING but when it idles its not so pretty...its not a mellow rumble, it kinda has a high pitched burble sound to it
