1999 was the first year, but there are a lot of Cobras running out there that are newer and have swapped in a live axle. Never know what you will come across looking at used cars.

Yep...all Mustangs prior to the 99 Cobra had stick axles, and all Cobras since 99 have had IRS stock...

At least that's the way they came from the factory. No telling what's in them now :p

Yea, it's an all day task but nevertheless pretty much straight across trade:

I built up the solid rear in my GT and later sold it. Plan on swapping the IRS out of the Cobra with the solid from the GT as the new owner of that car is interested.

Look for a 03-04 IRS system if you can, the earlier ones suck compared to them

Hey Tom... besides a beefier torque brace and maybe 31 spline axles (not sure about that one), what other differences are there between the 03/04 IRS and the 99-01 IRS?

From what I've seen, 03/04 IRS's came with better diff and better bushings - from that came better suspension geometry due to how they changed them or something to that effect!

The diff is an 8.8 like all the others. Not sure about the bushings...

Better suspension geometry? Hmmm... I don't know of any changes to pick-up points, etc. I think the geometry is the same.
