Okay, I made a fully refundable $500 deposit with a Ford dealer in Central NJ on Tuesday (yesterday). The dealership is owned by Flemington, a very large network of Ford dealers in NJ. He told me that today, 8/18/04, there was an event in Philadelphia for dealers where they were going to be able to see/possibly drive a 2005 Ford Mustang GT. He even said he'd pick up some literature on the car for me (which I really don't need, being I knew more about the damn car than he did). Has anyone heard of this "event" in Philly? Sounds to me like I'm being bull****ted. Help anyone?
I haven't heard of the Philly event specifically but over on TheMustangSource.com, someone posted pics from a showing of the '05 in San Antonio, TX. It's not impossible that there's an event in Philly as well.
There are several pre-production models running around. It would not surprise me, that at least of couple of them are being used at special events to show it off to dealers. Back several years ago, I was invited to an event at a local race track. Ford was inviting owners of the then new 1994 and 1995 5.0 GT's, to test drive, and comment upon, a new Mustang. The invite didn't say, but later it became obvious that it was the 4.6 GT which came out several months later as the 1996 model. So, Ford does hold special "invitation only" events.
Philadelphia dealers show Actually I was dropping of my car last night for service when I stopped by desk of the sales rep that I order my 05 from and he said he was there yesterday, it was a local dealers sales meeting regarding the 05 Stang, 500 and Escape. He mentioned that the 05 Mustang was there but they were told not to touch the car, he also said that Michigan is now telling the dealers that all job 1 cars will not be for sale so they need to start telling the guys who ordered the car (like me) that I was now looking at late Oct-Early Nov. I really hope this isn't true, I'm hoping he has no clue what he's talking about!
In an official press release, Ford boasted that the 500 and the Escape will be at dealers in September, and then added that the Mustang will be "sometime after that". The fact that Ford didn't include Mustang in the list of new models to be at dealers in September, and they were so vague about when the Mustang would show up, had me wondering...
