I was working on the distributor and Stupid me didn't turn the igniton off. I pulled the distributor out and the damn thing exploded sot my oil breather and filler caps out of the valve covers and singed the side of my face and arms, so know I have no eyebrow or hair on the left side.

I just want to know what happened and if it's that bad. everything appears to be fine. except for me.

I'll have a pic up soon

Sounds like the crankcase is (was) full of gasoline/vapor.

That's a new one for me. I'm assuming you had a push-in valve cap and not the twist-on ones that stock Ford valve covers come with?

Probably just the dist. that went flying 10'. I don't see how anything could get damaged.

It's possible that the oil pan seals and crank seal may have been pushed out, but the breathers and dist holes might have been enough vent area to avoid it. You'll just have to eyeball them and check for leaks after it's running again.

May want to look into why there was that much combustible vapor in the crankcase, though. Flooded maybe?

my guess would be that your carb was flooding filling the crankcase with fuel

75stang302 is probably right... sometimes carbs can fill the engine with fuel, especially if it has been parked on a hill or sloop.
