Found out this morning that as of Nov.9 they are basically gonna close the plant I work at. I work for Flexsteel furniture and its been real slow lately. We all knew it was gonna happen sooner or later but kinda wished for the best. They said they are no longer going to have manufacturing there and its going to be a warehouse/ Distribution center. I've only been there for about 5 1/2 years so I have no shot at staying there. I hear that they are gonna support that deal where they will pay for schooling so I hope thats true. I would love to be able to go to school for website design.

sorry to hear that man. wat exactly did you do there. i'm sure having 5 1/2 years in production you shouldnt have a hard time getting another job.

i always thought you were a firefighter for a living, do you just do that as volunteer?

keep your head up things will come out straight.

This could be a great turning point for you. Get that education and do something maybe you will really enjoy! I did the same thing and never looked back. Keep that big block as a goal too.

I thought you were a firefighter. I guess I'm confused.

College is going to be important. My personal opinion is that there are WAY too many web developers out there to try to get into that professionally unless you have a million dollar idea (in which case, find a friend to program it while you sell it and split the profit).

That sucks, but I agree it's a good opportunity to work towards what you really want to do.

Web design isn't easy. Well, I suck at it anyways. :p My site was a ripoff of my brother's design.

Join the union... Im a union ironworker for local 433 in los angeles and I make $42.00 an hour with full benefits and pension, there are all kinds of easier trades and they all pay close to that, plus we do commercial construction so we NEVER get slow!! I dunno just a suggestion man, if your smart you dont work hard and make more than the "all back no brain" people LOL

I actually am in the union. However my union sucks and does absolutely nothing for us. Our president is a slob that sounds like he has a **** in his mouth when he talks. There has been tons of time when we have filed greviences and the union said just drop it we aint fighting. My buddy and me filed one for not being paid the higher rate for doing a job and they said it was "put on hold" we still havent seen the money and never will.

Knowing HTML,***,Java and CSS doesn't make you a profitable web dev though. To make money, you need to be REALLY good. Or join a good union apparently. Union workers are some of the most overpaid in the country. I've met world class engineers who don't make that kind of money. I should just change professions . . .
