I just bought a 03 mustang gt, which is an upgrade from a 95 mustang v6. i was looking around some information about hooking up my old amp and 2 10" speakers to the mach 460 system and i saw the mach 1000. I really like the trunk room it allows. anybody know if this system is actually worth the 500-700 bucks i see it selling for? and does it just hook up to the mach 460?

IMO, no. It sounds ok but just wasn't enough for me to get it. I would rather put my own sub setup in there. I have a 10inch Treo Sub that rocks the Mach 1000. And since you already have Subs and Amp you should use that and put the money in a fiberglass box for the sides and hang the amp from the Mach 460 rear enclosure. I spent $3 dollars to mount the amp, but the box is costing a little bit more. By doing this I still have most of my trunk space.

The enclosure is 1.26 ft

I'm not sure what system you were looking at when you referred to "I like the trunk room it allows". The Mach 1000 has six factory amps that pretty much make the trunk a waste of time. Not to mention two 12" subs on either side. Go aftermarket. I'm two weeks from yanking this Mach 1000 crap from my car and throwing it as far as I can!

My Mach 1000 is probably the best factory stereo I've ever heard. However, if you are accustomed to high quality sound systems, it pales in comparison. I am so vocal about mine because of the wretched commercialism of it all. There is no reason to use 6 amps for the low quality speakers that are provided. In my opinion, it's as much for show as anything. I really don't care how a system looks, it is a SOUND system!!! (Can you tell I'm upset with Ford on this one?) Anyway, I hope my info helps you.

Anybody know if Ford sells the enclosures? The Pics of the new 2005 1000w system has both speakers on one side of the trunk. It's pretty streamlined and would work well. JL Audio makes a nice phantom enclosure that bolts to the passenger side of the trunk well. It's very pricy though. My box slides around in my trunk and has TRASHED the trunk liners. If I bolt it down I wouldn't be able to get to the spare and since my wife drives my car at times it needs to be present. I have a vert so it makes the trunk even smaller.

there is definitly a lack of trunk space, but it is impressive. Everyone I've shown mine to has been impressed that it was stock, even those that have very high class systems. It doesn't sound as good as those systems, but from the factory it's the best system I've heard personally. The subs are also 10"
