i have an 85 merkur xr4ti and the car has no spark . the one day i was checking timing and as soon as i moved the dist car shut off and now has no spark. i've changed TFI, dist, coil, computer,EEC relay, and have checked ground wires. there is not that many volts at the TFI plug like 4or 5 volts what else can i check? this really has me going crazy
Sounds like when you moved the distributor it cracked the wires in the harness that goes into the TFI and now it's not getting a connection...
to check to see if i'm getting signal to the spout do i just unplug it and have somebody crank it over and see if it's getting power that way? and i'll check the TFI wires
Yes it should be a pulsed signal, so an analog voltmeter would work best. You cannot disconnect the plug from the TFI while doing it though. The ECM takes the PIP (I believe its PIP right?) signal from the dist. and sends the SPOUT back. If the ECM does not recieve a PIP signal then it cannot create a SPOUT. You will have to pull the SPOUT connector off ( the one you use for timing) and probe the correct pin with the Voltmeter. goodluck.... P.S.- does that sound correct to everybody? I've been doing VW training the last 4 months so my mind is having a little trouble thinking FORD again...hah
