Hey guys my friend has a 2001 cobra and is having some engine issues. He is looking to maybe start fresh with a new engine. Is there an engine that is a direct replacement to his, that will drop in with minimal mods? I know hardly anything about mustangs really so I have no idea. I have a 99 Trans Am and just did a swap from my ls1 to an ls6. It used the same comp, bolted right in. He is wondering if there is something like that. Or maybe you guys have some ideas. Thanks in advance guys.

What type of "engine issues" is he having? Is he seeing low compression numbers on one cylinder or is making really bad noises, etc?

It may be easier for him to just rebuild it and/or replace the damaged parts if the damage is minimal. He can always swap in a similar mod motor engine (96-98 cobra, 99/01cobra, 03/04 Mach, 03/04 Cobra, etc) if he has the money and the patience.

Good luck switching to anything other than a 4.6 mod motor. Of corse it can be done, but not without a lot of problems. Lots of places will sell him a fresh long block, and it will be way cheaper in the long run. If he is really that burnt out maybe he should just fix it and dump the car.

How many miles on car, complete engine brace him for around 6k with install. It might be better for him to repair it if he did not hurt bearings and crank journals.
