So last night my dad and I finish the rebuild of my car. What a hell of a project. In hindsight it would have been easier and maybe less expensive to have someone else do it but I learned a hell of a lot and all in all it was a great experience.

The car is now quiet, no more annoying diesel sound. And it feels a lot stronger. Of course I haven't gotten into it yet but I can just tell its so much better then it was before; smoother, quieter (no diesel!) with a great tone to it. I put new Mahle pistons in it, JBA headers, cobra tank/pump, etc.

Anyway, the point of this post is what happened after I got the car back together. I rebuild the car in a family cabin in the San Bernardino mountains and was driving it back home. I had just gotten on the 10 freeway when the semi beside me decided he wanted to be in my lane. With no warning and no shoulder, he hit me and I hit the guard rail. I stopped, he kept driving. Wonderful.

My parents saw the whole thing since they were driving right behind me. They followed the truck, tried to get his attention to get him to stop but he wouldn't. They got a plate number so we'll see what happens.

I've attached a couple of pictures of the damage. The passenger side has dents and scratchs down the length of the car frpm the guardrail and the drivers side got some semi rim reworking. My poor car.

If nothing else, I get pretty much a new paint job, new finder and door. There has to be something good out of this BS I guess.

Anybody know a good body shop in Orange County?

Sorry about your car. I know how it feels, i wrecked mine last october. Its a sickening feeling. But as long as your fine, cars are rebuildable.

I hope you get that bastard. This is the reason i hate 99% of truckers. They are inconsiderate menaces to the road. I was at a truck stop last year and some freak trucker was wiggin out about stealing all the straws from the Mcdonalds, so they could use them instead of rolled up dollar bills to snort their crank. Real nice and safe.:nonono:

    Mike.

Must have been harrowing being grinded along the center divider by a semi truck. I'm so sorry. Being the guy who won the driving competiton before the Saleen show last year it shows that anything can happen that's out of our control.

Try Santini in Westminster. He is the best and knows Joe. Oh yea, he does paint work for Chip also.

Sorry to hear about your experience. If it would have been me getting sandwiched between the guardrail and a semi, they would have been replacing the drivers seat and jeans as well. I definately would have made a mess out of both of them :rlaugh: The good thing is that you're OK. The car can be fixed easy enough...

Thanks everyone. The car is easily repairable and no one was hurt, and I pretty much get a new paint job too since the damage is along both sides and the hood. Pretty much the only thing they won't touch is the roof. Oh, and two new front wheels and a new tire. Yay!

Marcus, the car was dropped off at Santini's about 20 minutes ago. I forgot about them. I use to be into the truck scene and always admired his work. They said I should have her back in about three weeks.

Hit & run...the guy could definitely lose his trucker's license on this deal...probably wacked out on dope or booze, so he didn't stop. Hopefully your insurance carrier will try to pursue against his company to get reimbursement.

    what a scumbag.

Thanks Todd. Yeah, I'm looking forward to get it back on the road again.

Last I heard the CHP had traced the plate on the trailer to Farm Fresh Marketing in Idaho and they were going to talk to the driver of the truck. My insurance company is investigating it still but hopefully this company in Idaho will do the right thing and cover this.

I still have about two weeks before the car is finished. I just moved yesterday so I've been busy with that, but I'm going to try and get over to the shop and check on it Monday. Right now I'm cruising around in a Chrysler 300, which is a really nice car, so things could be worse I guess.

Nope, no hemi. When they said they only had a 300 available the SRT-8 popped in my head for second but then reality came back in. So I told the guy behind the counter to hook me up with one sitting on 22's, tight sound system and a PS2, but they wouldn't go for it.

Now I know why they call themselves thrifty. :rlaugh:
