Need advice on upgrades for 06 GT

Thanks Hoboattacker, for writing up all that. That is VERY helpful! Well, the turbo info, isn't really helpful, since I now am curious about that too :)

I do have 20s on my car so I guess the pro kit would be the way to go for me. Do you have any type of chin spoiler? I guess that's the only thing I'd be worried about scraping.

Tom

If you get a chin spoiler you will have to be a little more careful. I do not have a chin spoiler but I've heard that people that have sportline springs scrape more often than those without them.

Like KoolDawg said, it all depends on tire size if you will rub. I was assuming you were going to stick with the stock 27" tire height.

If you do go supercharger and you end up getting Long Tube headers, you might have to be a little more careful over speedbumps and rough railroad crossings. I don't really know with the Pro kit though. My friend had an 06 GT and had sportlines and LT's and he scraped some but only when going over speed bumps and it wasn't a huge deal. It was very very minor.

The Turbo Horsepower kit actually tucks all of the piping up under the K member if I'm not mistaken. That way you don't have to worry about scraping with that. The other kits I don't think do this. I could be wrong so if I am somebody please correct me.

It seems too many people get caught up just saying they have 17s, 18s, 19s and 20s on their car and we're supposed to know if they will scrape or the tires rub...I don't care about the wheel size, I can be quite a bit of help if you just state the tire sizes:nice: You could have a 20" tire that is 26" tall or 28" tall and that would make a world of difference!
I'll tell you that I have a 255/45-18(27") on the front with 1.6" of drop and the CDC Classic Chin Spoiler which puts me about 5.5" of ground clearance and it scrapes quite a bit, but fortuneately it's only roughed up the underside. Nothing you can see looking at it from above:D

I have 255/40R20 tires, and I also have the CDC classic chin spoiler. Haven't scraped it yet.. :)

Here is my front ground clearance. A 12 oz soda can is about 4 13/16".

I just reread some of your posts and saw you were looking at the Roushcharger....I wouldn't. It's nowhere near as efficient as the saleen s/c and the saleen has more potential in the hp/tq area. If you are looking to get a whole bunch of power though, go with a Whipple supercharger (that is if you go with s/c over a turbo).

The Saleen is on the top of my want list at the moment. I read that it has a bypass for low speeds, is this a common feature for superchargers? The only reason I'm a bit hesitant about the turbos is the lack of that instant torque, but that would probably be a good thing in the winters here.. The more I think about this tho, the more I'm realizing I'm just going to have to get a beater car for the winter.

Looking at Kooldawg's pictures, that is quite a drop compared to where mine is now. I always thought lowering was just a cosmetic thing, so I'm learning something here too. I do want to close the big space around the tires, but is it as simple as "The lower the better"?

Thanks!
Tom

It is a handling benefit(in most cases as many companies make quality sets)with a cosmetic improvement. I went out on a limb and got the Stang Suspension house brand springs(they were the only ones that advertised more drop in the front than the rear and that was what I was after)and so far I'm quite satisfied. They've been in for about 1500 miles now and the ride is better than I was expecting as far as being beat to death over bumps. The handling is much improved over stock! I'd say there are at least a half dozen companies that make good springs(Steeda, Roush, FRPP, Vogtland, Eibach, etc) it's just up to you as the drop you want and price you want to pay.

This is very true about the "insta-torque". But it's not as bad as you think, either. If you got the THP 61mm kit, you hit full boost by 2800rpms. So yeah, from a low launch you wont get that "insta-torque" but when you drop a gear to pass somebody you wouldn't have to worry about torque at all heh.

Also, no matter what route you go with forced induction, you are going to NEED at least 3 gauges. Wideband (digital) Air/Fuel ratio, a vac/boost gauge, and a fuel pressure gauge. Those are the three that I would probably run but of course you can run more if you want more piece of mine (Oil temp, water temp, etc...). I would suggest getting the SOS triple gauge a-pillar pod or the SOS triple gauge dash pod.

www.speedofsoundllc.com is where you can buy them. They are more expensive than other companies, but they look like they came with the car is how well made they are.

Non-drill version of the dash pod:

the drilling is required for the wires that go to the gauges. If you get the non drill version it has a piece on the back of it that runs to the heater vents where the wires would go through (from my understanding).

I'm not sure if I asked before, but does lower drop equal better handling? I don't want it dropped too low, but at the same time I need that good handling too.

I assume struts and shocks are also needed with the kind of upgrades I want to do? So far I'm planning to get a suspension package, an aluminum driveshaft, a turbo or supercharger (with the gauges that Hoboattacker mentioned). Am I missing something? Upper and lower control arms, would be part of a suspension package, right?

Thanks again for all your help (both you and Hoboattacker)! :D

You don't need shocks and struts. They would be nice but you don't need them. You NEED to get yourself some Lower Rear Control arms (BMR or CHE are good companies). Upper Control Arm is optional (depending on if you launch at the track a lot or not). Aluminum Driveshaft is a great idea (Spydershaft is a good company) and you'll probably want to get a Driveshaft Safety loop.

Pro Kit suspension package wont lower your car all that much (less than an inch up front and a little more out back if I remember right).

Sportline Kit will lower the front 1.5" and 2" in the front and rear respectively, if I remember right.

I have the sportline and don't scrape or rub and it looks awesome :nice:

Not always.
You can get a mild drop(up to 1")and get a few of the other goodies such as LCAs and UCA which can make a world of difference by being more rigid than the OEM parts. If you slam it(2" or more), you definitely will need new struts/shocks as OEM ones aren't designed for that. You will definitely need adjustable panhard bar(to recenter the rear axle under the car), adjustable LCAs or adjustable UCA to readjust your pinion angle. If you simply get springs thinking "the lower the better" and do nothing else, you won't gain much and quite possibly end up with an ill handling car. A suspension package is definitely the way to go if you have the money, as ALL the components are designed to work together!

I didn't read all of the responses but here is what I have:

2006 GT auto with the following mods:

20"X9" Shelby wheels (255/35/20 all around)
Eibach Pro Kit springs
CDC Chin Spoiler
Paxton 2200RR Supercharger

My car makes 445 RWHP (with the big heavy 20s) and I am very happy with it. The spoiler will scrape if you aren't careful but I have had it for a while now with no issues. Hope this helps. Here is a picture:

Thanks, that helps a lot! Great looking car! Those wheels look just like mine (Shelby Razor 5 Gunmetal) and the color is the same!
So your car looks great! :)

How much lower did your car get?

Tom

You mean after the Eibach springs? I'm not really sure, I never measured. I think the kit is supposed to drop the car 1.5". I can tell you that the lip spoiler scrapes more with the stock 17's than it does with the 20's so the bigger wheels help.
