Is it possible to hook up subs and an amp to a factory head unit? If so, what do you use for the remote and RCAs?

I am looking to through some subs into my Escape and do not want to get rid of the factory deck - if I don't have to.

    Thanks,

You'll need to add a high/low converter,Theres one made by Directed that when is senses a amll amount of voltage at the RCA's it adds power to a remote turn on, or you could find a remote wire on the back of the factory unit or a key switched wire.

Check out the September 5.0 mag. They do a sub hook-up to a stock shaker 500 system.

Actually I'm going to the store today. So what's it's actual name that I should ask for?

Edit: Would it be called a high/low converter? I feel dumb.

i like the ones made by Directed{DEI}(less noise) but theres a bunch out there. Its called a high to low converter because it coverts the hi level signal to a low level that is usuable by the amps. Some amps can take both inputs though.

I went to radio shack, best buy and circuit city and they didn't have it. So, instead, I just connect the wire to the ignition switch, which is a purple wire(in a '99-'04).

Might explain why I didn't find it. Anyways, I just spliced it into the ignition and it works well, and I guess I saved myself $20.
