Just putting white 23 tooth speedo gear in the 93 AOD. It doesn't seem to fit down far enough to allow the safety clip in. Is this normal, or should I drill out a small bit (2mm) of the inside of the gear to make it fit? Also, I broke the bolt that hold the assembly to the transmission housing. I don't have time to put a drill in there right now, any quick fixes?
are you trying to put the clip on backwards....they slid right on and the clip's open end faces towards the tranny.
No, it's not backwards. The two slits in the new gear don't slide down far enough to allow the safety click to fit into the relief in assembly. Long story short, the new gear has a more shallow pocket than the stock one.
Seriously, I need some help with this guys. What are your experiences? Was the bolt supposed to hold the whole assembly in without the clip? Was the gear made wrong? Did anyone else have issues with the gear fitting properly? It's really pissing me off, I'm supposed to take the car in tomorrow for alignment and I'd just for once like the "5 minute" job to actually take only 5 minutes. Haha, I really feel like an idiot. Anyone know what those ford racing re-calibrators do? Would they work in a 93 Fox, or are they for electronic speedos only?
Mine was hard to get on, so I put white litium grease all over the inside of it and forced it on far enough for the clip to work. That was in february and so far its still working fine.
