I have a 69 mach 1 that Im currently restoring and want to rebuild the 351w in it. It runs now but seems tired and smokes after a while. I am planning to do a stroker but need help from the pro's and want it to be reliable for the weekend cruises. My q's:

1. Shold I but a stoker "kit" for this block or buy a shortblock already built?

2. Where's the best place to buy the kit or shortblock?

3. I plan on using AFR heads but which one's?

4. What cam size? I want it to be streetable.

5. 393 or 408 for reliability?

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Like Lman suggests, you can search the forum and get tons of info on strokers of all sizes. This will get you going on your research. You can check out Cost High Performance for stroker kits, short or long blocks. They do it all and have a great reputation.

I clicked on his search url and found no results, so I'll give you my .02c opinion.

Facts: I don't have a 351 stroked or not, but do have a 302 stroked to 331.

Opinions:
1: If you're not doing the work yourself or have anybody you trust implicitly; buy a crate motor. There are several good names out there, I like www.keithcraft.com

2. Heads; if you're not racing it 185's should be great.

3. Cam--something like a comp xtreme energy XR-268-R (for a roller, but profile is good)

4. Personal opinion I'd either go the 393 or go all out and go the 427:D
