I recently purchased a 03 Saleen S/C Vert with the Mach 460 sound system. It had a junk Sony Explod deck in it from probably around 2000 or so. It sounded like it had nothing but the tweeters working, pretty much no bass at all, sounded horrible. So I went and ordered a nice Pioneer Deck, DEH-6000UB, wired it all in, and it basically sounded about the same. I did some tweaking on the audio setup and got it sounding a little bit better. I realized that I didnt hook up the other plug that came with the kit, did some research, found out it was the amp intergration plug. I wired it in, and plugged the RCA's into the Sub out port on the back of my new receiver. It still bascially sounded exactly the same. So this morning I took the rear seats out and low and behold, the amps are gone. So my question is this: Should I buy 2 factory amps off of ebay, which I can get 2 for under 100 bucks, or what sort of aftermarket amps should I look into getting? Anything past wiring in a new deck is pretty much out of my realm of knowledge, I have never messed with amps or subs or anything like that. Would it be worthwile to just grab 2 factory amps and hook them right into the plugs that are already back there? Also there is not a front amp there either under the deck, I have heard that an aftermarket deck makes up for that, but Im not sure. I figured I had better ask the experts about all of this before I go waste my money. I should also mention that Im not looking at entering this into any bass competitons. I just need something that sounds pretty good, that I can still hear with the top down. Thank you for any help, it is much appreciated.
Unless you plan on replacing the speakers, I'd just get the factory amps. Also the 2001s and up came with the tweeter amp built into the changer deck. What I did was dump the whole mach system and add a sub/amp in the trunk along with some new speakers in the doors and rear deck. It works for now, and sounds way better than the mach 460.
