I purchased my long sought after Cobra this weekend. It truely was worth the effort in searching it out. 23K miles and it is in like new condition. It is nicer than a 6K mile 01 Cobra and 3K mile 03 Cobra I considered. I would like to increase the power to 03/04 levels. I was thinking about upgrading the exhaust system, CAI and possibly other sytems. I would appreciate advise on how to get to the 390 HP level without NOS or supercharging. Perhaps, a new chip would help. I appreciate the advise and insight I have recieved from board members. The 850 miles I drove this weekend was well worth it for the price and quality of car I purchased. :D

Forced Induction is by far the cheapest way to reach that number.

If you get the performance mods I have in my signature you should be around 330RWHP which is approximatly 400 engine horsepower . Just to let you know that the 390HP of the 03 Cobra is under rated, it really puts out like 420-425HP since most of them dyno 367-375 RWHP

You would have to dig deep & mod the hell out of it to get the power of a 03/04. Just do the normal mods for now (CAI, exhaust, shifter, etc.) & enjoy the car. Or go ahead & start shopping for a supercharger/turbo setup & go after the terminators.

BTW, my previous car, a 01 Cobra 'vert, put down 298 rw HP & TQ with a C&L CAI, Steeda U/D pulleys, Magnaflow catted X pipe & a FR500 catback exhaust. Stock was 267 rwhp & 277 rwtq.

    My '04 put down 372 rwhp & 358 rwtq stock & 412 rwhp & 382 rwtq with the same exhaust parts off of my '01 & a K&N FIPK.

Congrats on your new toy, have fun with it.

You'll never get to 390 N/A out of the stock engine without lots of expensive mods. Read all of the bolt ons, P&P heads, stage2 aftermarket cams, shortend runner intake w/p&p..and more. 370hp is the highest n/a 4.6 i've seen. Check it HERE. If you really want 390hp the easy way, get a 2003/04. Otherwise I hope you have a fat wallet! I really enjoy my reliable n/a 2001 Cobra. So can you, just don't try to make it into something it's not. There will always be something faster.

Get the basic mods plus 4:56 gears. You'll be as fast as a $260,000 Ferrari. I've have the basic bolt-ons on my 99 cobra(excluding headers, inner fender cai, port and polished intake). I'm at 310 rwhp and 305rwt. I have 4:10's, but these cars prefer 4:56's. With 4:56's, you should be mid 12's in the quarter. Soon to get 4:56's.

like everyone else said it will take tons and tons of money to achieve 390hpN/A with just bolt ons you can get close to 330RWHP
