new to me 87 t top stang

What are everybodys thoughts on this car, i am most likely picking it up this weekend if all goes well. This is the car ive wanted since i was like 15 and it looks like i will finally have the car of my dreams. IF all goes weill the engine will be pulled immediately and will go in my current 88 lx and then the lx will be sold. Then the engine bay will be smoothed and wires in the fenders and my 347 stroker will be put in. After the running gear is completed the body will be tackled and painted black. But tell me what you guys think and i cant make up my mind on whether i want to keep it a gt or an lx. THe gt ground effects need to be replaced anyway so i was thinking of removing them and just doing an lx back bumper and a saleen front since that was the original plan for my 88. I also have black bullits that will be goin on the car and i think they will look better on an lx rather than gt. wish me luck and give me some feedback guys.

I just picked up an 87 GT t-tops last week also.

I need to do similair things to yours as far as freshen up the paint and add some little bolt ons =)

I'm going to keep mine with gt bumpers but de-badge the whole car and put lx tails..

The black bullits will look good either way.

I would keep it a GT simply because i like them but also because thats what the car originally was.

first thing im gona do is check for major rust. i know there are some rust spots but nothing serious, me and the owner have talked a few times and he has told me everything. I have an 88 gt also that will remain a gt, but i got the 88 lx that i have now and the lx body is really growing on me, i cant make up my mind on this so we will see, i have a pic that a guy photchopped for me of my lx with bullits but now i wan to see what a gt with black bullits will look like. so anybody got any pics, or maybe somebody could photoshop kabuki notchs white gt into black,

But yeah you can't tell from a picture, you'll know if you want the car when you see it in person. I personally like the LX body as well. I'm going to pick up a '88 lx ttop on saturday. T tops are getting rare and expensive. If you really want one cause you like them... buy them now. Cause they'll be expensive down the road. I've always loved a black t top car.

These things are blowing up...thats a $3000 car two years ago being that it needs all that body attention...and hes getting $4000 for it now...man i'm gonna get mine done and sell it for like $8000

IM not asking you guys to say bad things about it or anything, i have talked to Drei 4 or 5 times now on the phone and he knows i post on here , thats how i found the car, So im not trying to be sneaky or anything like that, i dont want anybody to get the wrong impression of what i inteded for this thread.

Call me crazy, but that thing is WAY over priced. i would pay half that for a car of that caliber... for that price it better have ZERO door sag and come with most parts to fix it.

I agree... this saturday i'm picking up a '88 lx hatch ttop which is more rare then the gt's. I'm only paying 3500.00. Its clean and black. Nothing wrong with it. rebuilt tranny new exhaust. Only downfall... porno red interior ha. Buts its clean with no tears!

I dont want to pay too much but i dont want to passs up an oppurtunity either. i guess we will have to wait and see how bad the car really is, maybe we can work something out.He said the drivers side door does sag, is this really that big of a problem, can i just get new pin kit?

he Teal car posted above is also extremely clean. Inside, outside, under the hood, also came with some decent motor mods (mid to lower 13s on the street tires). You have to have better pics than that joe (with some tire shine on it ).

Without looking at this car in person, hard to say what I would pay for it. But $4000 seems high for rust, no decent mods, needing paint work and a lot of money to get looking right.

Also it isn't the area that makes the car worth more (Joe grabbed his in CT as well).

Seems like a good bit of work is needed before I would be satisfied if it was me looking for it.
Maybe $3000.00 maybe. Don't get over anxious for a car. I made sure I did not just settle before I finally found my diamond in the rough.

true i paid 2200 for a rust bucket it is all in what you can afford and are willing to pay.mine is a t-top and i have to pour more money into it but i was willing to do it.i take comfort in the fact that it is in my garage collecting dust until the day i can fully restore it.i jumped on this car but if i had to do it all over again i would have spent about 4000 for a cleaner one but atleast this one will not go to the crusher .i also saved another 88 t-top from the crusher 5 months ago a friend of mine bought it and hopes to restore it.these cars are rare and will eventually go up in price .paying 4000 for a t-top car is not that bad as long as the framerails and a-pillars are not rotted .everything else can be fixed or replaced good luck with the purchase and welcome to the club of the distinguished few.lol

There was no intent of sale in my thread. it was just for people to see the pictures and stuff. I can under stand if i was the seller and i was trying to put it out there more , but c'mon. whats the big deal here

I agree, the whole posting ebay links and classifieds thing is buuuull sheeet!. I dont' care if a guy is trying to "Promote" his sale. Good for him. Maybe somebody looking for what he is selling will help the buyer find it by posting a link. I don't understand the big deal. This forum is way to picky The only reason i like it is because its got a good "talk" section, but your so limited to what you can say/do. I feel as if i have to ask permission before i post!

And for the car. Its all about what YOU think the car is worth. If your gonna sink a ton of money in it then just buy it whether its 3 or 4k. No matter how good or BAD of a deal you get. There is ALWAYS and i mean always somebody that will say "Oh i got mine cheaper!" well good for you. I'm happy for you. I'm paying 3500.00 for mine. I'd pay a little more for it if i had to but not much. Its just a car i can drive daily and will make into a show car in the next year or 2. Personally, i've always loved ttops and i'll pay extra for those. If a black hatch ttop gt is what you want. I'd suggest stop worrying about the price and buy it. They don't come up for sale to often. Then down the road if you don't buy it you'll think damn, heck i would of payed 5k for it if i can have it right now!

Seeing as this is a free forum, the rules should be followed and those using the forum without paying one penny out of pocket should follow them. If they allowed this there would be 5 posts a day of random people trying to sell stuff. The rules are there to keep spam and such off the net.

If you guys really want to show pics, go to properties, snag the location of the pic and then toss some image tags around it.

Also the random ebay ads that get posted on other boards... I don't see the point in finding something on ebay and putting it on somewhere else to make fun of it. Does that ad mean so much that you feel the need to share it with people who most likely have already seen it before?

probably what i will end up doing, but hopefully we can work something out, i have big plans for the car so we'll see, but like you said i dont want to regret it later down the road.
