new wheels

    Can anyone tell me about the quality of AFS wheels out of So. Ca? I have a 2006 gt and was thinking of upgrading to 18x9 inch polished aluminum wheels with 255x45x18 tires. The stock offset of my 17x8 inch stock wheels is 45mm and the AFS wheels are 40mm. Anyone see any problems with this? Will it cause any problems down the road with any of my suspension parts? Oh yeah I have no other modifications except Magnaflow mufflers. My car is a daily driver and I have no plans on taking it to the track. I'm kind of new to this so any help would be great!

    Have no idea about AFS, but everything about the wheels will be fine and your suspension will be fine.:nice:

    thanks for answering! Anyone else have any opinions? I have had people tell me to leave the stock rims if it's a daily driver, that the ride will suffer. Anyone have comments on that?

    I have questions too

    I'd like to set my wheels out closer to the edge of the fender opening but not outside it. The factory ones sit inside and now that I put on the Roush wing I think it looks a little funny. What is it I need, offset? Which direction more or less? Numbers will help, thanks! I may consider the FR500 chrome wheel. The FRPP cataloge lists a 24mm offset with a 5.98 backspace. Will this work?

    The offset is how much the spokes or the hub of the wheel is from the center of the whole rim. Having more puts it towards the outside of the wheel
    Less offset means towards the inside of the wheel...
    Example:

    [IMG] This is 45mm offset

    [IMG] This is a -2mm offset

    As you can see one is on the outside of the rim and the other is all the way on the inside. Hope that helps! :nice:

    I had AFS Mach 1 replicas on my 2005. The only problem I had was getting road salt on them, and eating the clearcoat. That's pretty normal for any wheel, though. Other than that, they held up fine.

    Thanks for the info. I live in N. Ca. so road salt is not a problem. The polished aluminum has no clear coat but since I enjoy cleaning my car anyway I guess keeping them polished should keep them looking nice.

    hopefully you really do enjoy keeping them polished, it is ALOT of work to keep bare polished aluminum clean.

    I like the look and fit no issues at all. The clear coat started to come off, on the rears, but from where it started on the flat rim surface, I do not fault the manufacture,, I’m sure the issue started with a nick from road trash, and then went from there. A friend owns a Body shop at home.. So the wheels are being prepped and clear coated for me as I type this. Be ready by the time I get home on leave.

    AFS makes nice wheels

    thanks again for all the info. Anyone else have any thoughts on bare aluminum wheels and their upkeep? Also never thought about having them clear coated. How much does that cost? Does any body shop do it?
