Hey ya'll, new to the forum here. I'm leaning towards a 2000 6-cylinder, but I also like the late-sixties classics. Good air-conditioner is a must around here. Can ya'll give me some advice on buying my first Stang, and anything I should know about the two cars mentioned above? Thanks in advance!

I can't help you on whether late 60's Mustangs have good air conditioning or not, but if you like modern day comfort and conveniences like ABS, traction control, etc..you'd be better off with the 2000. If this is your first car I'd also recommend the 2000 because of the above reason and because it would just suck a million times more if you crashed a 60's mustang. But, I definitely think the 60's Mustangs are a MUCH cooler car. :)

well the 99 up v6's are DEFINATLY faster than the pre 99's stock and you woudl be very wise to stick with 99 up, however the 99-00 have pcv issues and to much oil can get into the upper and cause detonation (pinging noise may not be noticable or able to hear until high in the rpms) the 01's up fixed this so it might be wise to get an 01 up mustang its only a little more.... 01's with manual tranny (only way to go) will run you 9k-10k~ in good to great shape. other than the PCV issue and some have gear whine noise noticable when you let off the gas at a given mph and coast, so speed up to 70-80 and just coast down with the windows rolled up all quiet if you hear a whine in the rear its the gears, if you dont then your good now worries, its not somethign thats gonna break on the car, easliy fixed its just an annoyance nothing more. thats the only issues to look out for.

if its a manual listen in the back of the motor area, tranny shifter area inside the car at idle for a ticking noise with the clutch out, might have to shift alot and use the cltuch alot and get it warm to notice, if it does its a throw out bearing, cheap easy replace able part, 200 buck max, also get the clutch replaced if miles are high cheap also. make sure all gears shift smooth (the T-5 is a notchy tranny so it wotn be smooth... just listen for grinding, especially shifting into 5th and second.

im not sure what all the differences are, but if its only in the valve cover I dont see why getting a new valve cover with new lines up to the upper would not fix it, even on my 01 I ran an inline fuel filter and its catching oil....

Does anyone know if the '99-00 GT's had the same PCV problem?

If I was you I would with a 99-04' V6 or V8 if you can aford it. I got nothing against the older classics but I think a newb driver would be better off with modern features like power disc brakes and power steering. I understand they make kits to upgrade the classics but most newb drivers don't have the extra cash or machanical skills to do these swaps. Also I rather see a newb driver destroy a newer stang than a classic :D

I think a 00' V6 is booked around 9k so, I agree you could probly find a GT for that or cheaper. Theres a 98' GT Vert going for 10.5 on ebay and a 97' GT for under 8k. Heck I saw a first generation Lightning for 8k on there also. The only thing you have to worry about is insurance but if you shop around you should be ok. Hell but the a first generation lightning and put it down as a F150 ;)
