I took a 450 mile road trip in the car over the last couple of days. Went to central/southern Utah, near the Uinta Basin area. A lot of the area in these fotos is my old stomping grounds growing up. Try and find the green turd in this pic: It's obvious in this one: Here's a pic kinda with my fat ass in it: At the top of this cliff in the pic is where one of our campsites is located. The cliff doesn't look very tall in this pic, however it's 1100 + feet from the top of the cliff to the canyon floor. Navajo sandstone cliffs, used to be ancient sand dunes. Here is one of the moon just rising for the evening. Ended up staying in Price for the evening, then took a side trip up to Duschesne this morning. Never tried that road before and it was well worth the detour. Just west of town is the Starvation Reservoir, with this bridge crossing it. I have to tell you that with the added elevation in the high country it was damned cold out there. All in all a nice break away from the chaos of after-thanksgiving crowds and crap. C & C the pics, I need opinions.
Looks beautiful! Ive never been to that part of the country, but hopefully one day I can take some vacation time to road trip out west.
Had the chance in my early 20's to travel in depth across the nation. Spent some good times in Utah...didnt care for the drinking laws but I was not there to drink. Pics are great. A mustang is on the list of cars NOT to take out west though. A jeep is the way to go. In the top pic it looks like the mustang is almost floating or was added later in PS or something.
Lots of beautiful country up there. So what broke on the car? Driving out into the boonies is a sure way to guarantee that something will break.
The top pic and the couple that follow are all based on Entrada sandstone. Many steps and tiers everywhere. The stuff erodes incredibly fast, in the top pic near the lower left you can see all the breccia that has fallen. All that has fallen since I first camped there way back in 1990. It's interesting, each year or so I try to make it to that site and a little has eroded each time. Taking the car back in there is really a lot easier than it looks, most of the slick rock you see the car sitting on is flat, just have to watch out for those little gullies and take it really slow. I was more worried about blowing out one of the tires, 35 series on the rear and 40 series on the front. They held fine. I took a bit of getting used to the limited slip when going around a corner on a gravel road, though. The only trouble I had was the car throwing a CEL on and off on the way home. I scanned it when I got home, and it pulled 3 codes, 02 sensor lean, 02 sensor rich, and a MAF circuit issue. Thing that concerns me is there's only 6 volts coming to the MAF from the computer/wiring harness according to the VOM. I've got the codes written down in the garage, all OBD-1 stuff. If you guys want more pics, let me know, ended up with 600 megs of them from this trip.
