Parking Brake Cable The parking brake cable on my 97 V6 is very loose and you have to pull the handle very high to engage. I cannot see an adjustment point. Has anyone had success tightening up the cable without have to replace it?
Ask at a mech shop, I know we can tighten 'em at the dealership, but I've only seen it done on jeeps. It's something in the back inside of the brakes. Good luck.
That's odd. Usually parking brakes become more tense (with fords and mustangs especially) as time passes until they start going bad, or so I've heard. I would check the ratchet mechanism and the corresponding springs in your rear calipers to see that they are working properly. They say "parking brakes never need to be adjusted"..so I'd say you got a lemon
Not true about the lemon. I have the same problem with mine. I looked through my repair manual and they say that you gotta adjust from underneath and above....i dunno, get a manual and see for yourself. its a Chiltons manual btw. Should be pretty straight forward from there. Just wanted to prove that its not a one-person problem. Good luck.
i have a related queston i guess..my brake light is always on, even though my break is down, well i have pulled the console up plenty of times doing interior work, well there is this lil button looking thing that is now just haning under my console...is that maybe the button that when ingage turns the light off? if so where does it go back in at? i probaly can figure it out myslef just havent cared to much to pull it off, the brake is off but the lights on, so im not to worried bout it just wondering if that lil thing that is now hanging is the "sensor" or whatnot for the ebrake
