We left Columbus around 5:30 pm on Friday and after 1 food stop, 1 gas stop and one to figure out why our buddy's Audi A4 had no low-beams we didn't get to the Tail of the Dragon til around 1 am. This is where it gets ugly...the GPS feature on the Motorola V3M doesn't work if you don't have a cellular signal. So, after a couple hours of driving down 1-lane gravel roads and almost hitting a mother and 2 baby wild boars we ended up giving up on the cabin for the night and rolled into the Microtel in Robbinsville after 3 am. The next day we got up, coffeed up and found the cabin......WELL worth it! It was hand built by the owner and finished less than a year ago. 3 bed, 2 bath, fully stocked kitchen, 2 TVs w/ DVD and sat. (got to see the Ohio State game), remote controlled fireplace, hot tub, fire pit, grille and all in the middle of 21 secluded acres. After 6 runs on the Dragon the Stang has hosed front tires from the corners and multi-colored rotors from the braking, but DAMN was it fun!!! Now, on with the pics..........
wow i need to have one of these getaways with my old highschool buddies... boy how i miss the simple life... ahh well nice rides... down a beer for me.
I live/work in the "big city" so to go down there and live for a few days I really understand the meaning of "the simple life". I told the wife of the man that built the cabin that we all came down for the Dragon (in case you haven't heard of it there's a link in my text above...it's an 11 mile stretch of route US 129 that has 318 curves, very tight and very unforgiving if you screw up) but the cabin changed all that into simple relaxation. I definately recommend getting away like this...
Looks awesome out there with the fall colors now. Looked like fun & nice pics! That cabin is awesome (but kinda reminds me of the movie The Descent haha) I hope to get out there soon when i get some more supsension done. Locally they were wanting to get a group to go there (since it's not too far) but guess things got too busy. I can't wait to get more suspension done anyway for roads like that.
