i just got an o/r h and mac catback. when the rpm's are above 2000 it pops not exhaust pop its like plow plow pop bam plow ping and it pisses me off what could it be? its like a ton of backfires and the car runs super rich now
check to see if your o2 sensors are screwed in tightly, that can be the problem, or they are completely finished.
yeah, because your o2 sensors is suppose to sniff the exhaust then send back a message for how much feul to send, if its not screwed in, or if its going haywire, then it will cause these car symtoms. I dont think its an exhuast leak because you would here a ticking noise that is annoyingly noticable.
So is it backfiring from the exhaust, or is it backfiring from the intake? Are you using MIL eliminators for the rear o2's? Possibly see if you can go to Advance Auto or Autozone and get them to scan for some codes. Sometimes one will be there and not trigger the CEL to come on. And I know this seems incredibly obvious, but are you SURE its not just the exhaust? An offroad H and a Mac catback will produce a bit of popping on deceleration.
im his best friend, i ride in it, and drive next to him all the time, and i have the same exhaust, i have no deceleration pops at all, his are back fires throught the exhaust, the only way i can explaint it it sounds like m-80 exploding in his exhaust, and its very rich, it smells like pure fuel coming out of his exhaust.
Rich and igniting in the exhaust IMO. Fix the rich issue, start with checking for codes and seeing whats up with the o2's.
