I too am pretty anal about the appearance of my car but also put into perspective that things are meant to be enjoyed and used. Of course marks will show. Although they also bug me, I usually dont try to wipe finger prints off on paint because if there's dust on the paint, it will create swirls. If a child closes a door with a sleeve be sure he or she does not have a rivet button on the sleeve! Some balance here would be in order. It's good teaching kids respect for things and how to take care of things but also to let children be children. A child with his mom at a gas station marveled over my car so I told him to ask his mom if he can sit in it. Well, he walked all over the back seat and the console!! but that was okay because the kid was fascinated and there was really no harm done. I have the camel/parchment interior. I love the color and would have no other but talk about a bi+ch to keep clean. I have floormats for my floormats and an extra set to boot. If you are wearing raw denim, you're not getting a ride! I put up with the shoe marks on the floor mats but at some point, I'll steam them clean. Its also very dusty where I work where people are digging Navy toxic waste. The car gets rinsed often and dabbed dry with bath towels. As for water collection, I just move the car, wait for the water to run off and then dab it dry. Im not as fastidious, but kudos to thos who can find the time to keep a super clean machine. Oh, and don't park next to SUVs. Its always the careless rear seat passenger that swings the door and its that rear corner that whangs into your ride. My passengers think I'm crazy for carefully choosing parking spaces. When you go to Home Depot or Lowes park on an upside incline in the lot. That way, a shopping cart or worse a shopping wagon doesn't come careening down into your car.
Thats what I do, all 3 of the above, plus I cover it after detailing for a few days at night. To many little kids here and bikes and skate boards and parents who don't keep an eye on them. I hog 2 spaces at work too......hehe
