I am replacing my front to rear brake line (fuel line also) and I got prebent lines from NPA. I was able to straighten the bent for shipping portion of the line without issue. I have a 289 car, but I don't know if there is such a thing as a V8 single exhaust, car had dual exhaust when I got it, so I ordered dual exhaust lines. The bracket where the mid section rear brake hose converts the solid front to back line is forward on the rear axel on the drivers side. The prebent line is not coming close to this, it is running beyond this point. Yes, the new line is different and longer than the old line I removed. I checked the Shop Manual and did not see any reference in that book. If you have an image of a link or anything as to where this connection location is on a dual exhaust small block car let me know please. I don't know if it is possible that the wrong line was shipping, but anything is possible. Also I can snap an image of my car if you need it. TIA sparx
Boy were there. All F code 260 V8 cars had single exhaust, All D code 289 4V had single exhaust, all C code 289 2V cars had single exhaust, and all A code 289 4V premium fuel cars had single exhaust, UNLESS they were GT models. 64-66 dual exhaust cars had unique front to rear, chassis bracket, rear axle hose, rear axle line, and hose retaining bolt. Glazier Nolan has these (they manufacture the brackets), you can bolt the bracket to the floor, although the original was welded, of course. It is critical to safety to do this. The factory single exhaust cars had the hose looped UP, which would put it right against the LH tailpipe (YIKES!), while the factory dual cars had the hose safely looped down. Beginning in 1967, they all had the hose looped down. Here it is on a factory GT car:
Yes this guy had the hose looped over the tailpipe and the hose was split when I got the car. But my bracket is close in proximity to that one you show. THANKS FOR THE IMAGE. But the line kit I have ends up OVER the rear differential case! Way long! I cannot move it forward any more of it will not fit the two forward attaching postions and it will plow in the drivers side shock tower. sparx
Strange. Must be something screwy with the line, maybe it was damaged in packing. Who made the line? Did you get the disc brake or drum brake line? The dual bracket is almost a foot closer to the frame rail than to original. The spot on most (except early) cars is an "L" stamped into the floor to show where it goes. Oh, I added a comment about single exhaust to my old post.
I just checked it again and the line with a bit of adjustment falls right into the area of the conversion point (bracket) as in the image you posted. I noticed too that the block on the axle is in a different spot in the image, rolled over to the front where mine is on top of the axle. Crap, more stuff to buy! So I can get the conversion bracket from this Glazer Nolan? Then I may have to replace the rear line, the block also. Hose I needed anyway since mine is split. sparx

So I can get the conversion bracket from this Glazer Nolan? Yep. They make them. It's a repro of the original. Then I may have to replace the rear line, the block also. Hose I needed anyway since mine is split. The "block" is part of the hose. You'll need to replace, or shorten the hollow bolt. Don't forget to replace the vent hose if it is shot. The steel lines on the axle are totally different on dual exhaust, too. GN is on the ball with this stuff. Typically, they'd have asked you if you need these items at the beginning.
My car came converted to dual exhaust, but not the brakes line and hose obviously. I ordered the brake line on the net from NPA no one was there to ask. But good to know the hollow bolt will be too long, how much too long is it? I can grind off a little with ease. Thanks for the info. 2+2. sparx
2+2 is right about the difference between factory dual exhaust and single exhaust cars. I ordered the brake lines for dual exhaust when I redid mine. I have a Versailles rear end so the hose is positioned different than it was on the OEM rear end. Mine worked out fine. I got this. Yeah that was "NPD", typo. Here is an image of what I have. I think that "L" raised metal is where the dual exhaust compatible bracket is to be mounted. I have everything ordered from NPD thanks for the guidance. If you could let me know about where the new bracket belongs that would solve this issue completely. TY sparx
you're going to need a hanger around there ( i know not about the brakes but i can't go look at mine : ( ) that's where mine is almost exactly. and i have a ( 'converted' ) dual exhaust set up on my C code. looks like you could put the braket in the right place and it will work ? : )
Auto parts vendors, and many Mustang suppliers would be clueless about the difference between single and dual exhaust brake systems. You need a supplier who also restores Mustangs. I don't remember the dimension, but if you thread your current bolt all the way to the hex, then compare the thickness of your brass block, subtract the thickness of the steel bracket on the new one, and cut that much off. You'll be cutting off about half the threaded portion.
All I need to know is if my placement estimate is correct? sparx EDIT- Just checked Glazer Nolan and I paid $6.50 for the bracket and $49.50 for the proper rear dual exhaust hose with block, so NPD is good with prices! I have the short vent axle bolt coming also for 8.00. It is good to have a good supplier I appreciate the heads up. I still need headers and the entire exhaust system, so I will call them for advice.
