I am thinking about getting some 4.10s for my Mustang as a Christmas present to myself and I was wondering for those of you that have them and had them installed by as shop, how much were you charged for labor? I just want to get an estimate before I jump the gun.
You can expect to pay $200+ for just the install. Do NOT have your local yahoo mechanic install them! Either have your Ford dealership do it, or a very good speed shop. I can not stress this enough. I'm running a set of very whiney gears that cost me far more than it would have if I had not tried to cut the cost of quality labor.amnit: On the bright side.... MAN I LOVE MY 4.10's!!!!
Yeah, have them done by a pro. The '05 rear end seems to be very picky. I know mine had to be torn apart and reshimmed about 10 times to get it just right.
I paid $420 for labor only. The shop rates around me are $90-$100/hr. So that's not shocking to me. The 8.8 is a lot more involved than the 9-inch. The shop I used is well known for 60's muscle car fab work, so I had confidence that they would get it right. And WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The 4.10 moves the torque band right where it should be. That's the first mod anyone should make. Do it now!
I have an '06 GT 5-speed. Does it have 3.55 gears? Do you have to re-flash the computer when changing to 4.10s?
Yes you have 3:55 gears and you will have to re-flash it for your speedometer to be calibrated right.
